Looking south from the parking area. It was a nice warm 17 degrees out with a slight breeze.
Jason, moon, and car.
We ran on jeep roads for 22 miles.
Sangre de Cristo Mountains in the distance
Jason thought is was easier to climb over the fence than open the gate.
After a while the road only had a few tracks, but they did make it easier to run.
Running towards the Jemez
We reached with "high point" in the road which gave us great view of the Jemez.
Chicoma Mountain in the distance.
I found this sweet jacket. It is still sitting on forest service road 24M if anyone is interested.
We did not go down this road.
Running though Sagebrush Flats on the Caja Del Rio Plateau.
This is the trail head for Soda Springs. Will have to come back and hike that another day. This trail drops to the Rio Grande across from White Rock.
We ran an out and back on Sagebrush Flats just to see where the road went.
We returned to the car via a different route. Thankfully we remembered the correct way to go since I left the map in the car.
This road had not seen any receint traffic, but the running on the snow was not bad.
Although this sign said "dead end" we continued on. It was not a dead end.
Back in the forest.
View from the top of the last climb just below Ortiz Mountain. We are real close to the car now.
Final downhill to the car.
Jason finishing up the run. We got 22.5 miles in around 4:30.
Trying to get some of the mud off my car. The road was a little muddy on the way out.
