The goal for the day was to hike up Ahorn Spitz (not shown in this photo). Started just outside of Mayrhofen.
View across the valley. The weather was perfect for hiking.
A little Alm.
Trail through the forest
Not sure what this peak is called, but it looked cool
Working my way up above the Ahornach Alm
Looking over at the Edelhütte.
Ahorn Sp, the goal for the day.
Great view of top of the chair lift from Mayrhofen and the Aussichtsplatz Glatzer in the distance.
Close up view of the Aussichtsplatz Glatzer
Getting closer to Ahorn Sp
Movie: View from the top of Ahorn Spitz, part 1.
The ridge to the summit. It is a lot steeper than it looks in the photo
Looking back down the ridge to the summit
The summit cross
On the summit of Ahorn Spitz (2973 meters or 9754 feet).
The views from the top were great
Looking back down at the Ahornach Alm and the town of Mayrhofen at ~7,500 feet below.
This rugged ridge line was really cool looking. It would be a fun traverse but difficult.
Edelhütte in the center of photo.
Dropping down back towards town.
Heading down to the Alpenrose Gasthaus to meet Rebecca.
Ahorn Spitz is so far away now....
Enjoying a beverage while deciding the best route back to the car.
The Alpenrose Gasthaus.
After leaving the Gasthaus we quickly made it back to the car. The climb to the peak was 7,000 feet in 8.5 miles. Good training for UTMB!! http://connect.garmin.com/activity/212970326
