Perimeter - Mitchell Junction. This is new section of course for the 50k and 50mi
This is a pretty nice trial that goes around the perimeter of Los Alamos
The flowers are out.
The area burned in 2000 but the pines and Aspen are coming back.
The trail climbs the switch backs in the distance.
Climbing the switchbacks looking back at the way I just came.
The trail goes through little groves of Aspen trees.
There are great views of the town and the mountains to the east
There are some rocky technical sections on this trail.
Small canyon with Aspen trees.
Just ahead the course will take the connector trail between Permieter and Quemazon Trails. Turn right ahead.
The connector trail crosses this small canyon
There are lots of switchbacks with tight turns.
Going up the other side.
Looking up canyon with the descent trail on the right side.
Junction with the Quemazon Trail
Looking up Quemazon Trail
Lots of Aspen groves.
The course climbs the Quemazon trail and then turn right and descends the Nature Trail before dropping into LA Canyon.
Pajarito Canyon in the distance and the Quemazon Trail. The curse turns right here.
The 50k and 50mi course will ascend Pajarito Mountain.
This is the junction of the Pipeline Road and Guaje Ridge Trail. This area got severely burnt during the fire.
Turn onto Guaje!!
The severe burn section only last for a little bit.
And then onto nice single track.
And through new Aspen groves (this area was burnt in 2000).
This section had some new burn.
Gotta watch out for these. The root system burns and leaves ruts in the trail.
Looking at the Mitchell Trail. Only the half marathon will run this section this year.
