After a slabfest on Rte 2 west, the fun TransMassTrail begins to take me South. So glad I could see animals I'd expect (cows, pigs, horses, butterflies) & many I didn't (Llamas, black bear runs across my path while video is on).
Shortly after this was a fun corner, 315 degree uphill righthander - just let your imagination ponder on that for a bit...let me know if you want the waypoint coords or track.
Weather was dry & warm. I had to leave Sun 7AM before 150 riders enjoyed the main event - from their pictures I saw they went over this nice bridge too.
What's New England without a leaning covered bridge? Small bike sized, of course.
Scenery was awesome. The black horse trotted in from the left to get in the picture. Next time bring sugar cubes & more time.
Lunch stop - chosen for 2 reasons & memorable for the locals' weird conversation ("she's getting pregnant so she can get more from disability"), where I learned how to store the winter liner in the jacket's mesh pocket (so that's what it's for) and
yes the food was good. I'd pack a lunch & gas next time to spend more time on the TMT.
Lot's of creek/river views. River Rd was one of my fav's, then again, so was Trouble Rd.
See the Black Bear in center of the screen? By 2 seconds it's already over the guardrail, best seen in 1080. Kinda visible in the forest around 6 seconds. Was a big thrill when seen in person! Best missed turn experience I've had.
http://www.azuregreen.net/Aboutus.asp I bet they were hypnotizing me to go inside - must resist & ride on! I think the big event went by here too - anyone missing? Haha?
I dont' know what their fate is, considering they sell altars in the gift shop!
Nice spot for coffee next time.
Had to stop at http://landmautoinc.com/papa_store.htm#Healthy since the 'walking soon' light came on a while back, also chain was skipping & borrowed socket/ratchet to fix. Nice place! Fortunately the next day, Sailer & I did that part of the TMT I had to cut short since I rode straight to the cabin next.
View from cabin's front yard, shared w/2 Canada geese & their 2 goslings. Facing west. Due to broken pipes, the pool was not available - don't be tempted by the pond unless you don't mind leaches on your skin.
Home for 2 nites. Very nice spot!
After a delicious meal of lamb from http://www.tuckersrestaurant.com/index.php/our-story.html I knew dessert would be best by the campfire. I think it was midnight but it felt like 9. Sure was nice not to have to deal with a tent/hammock!
Didn't feel the need to get up early Sat. Greeted w/a nice view.
Thank you to our sponsors, http://www.newcomersandneighbors.org/activities/cycling-group Check your area for a local chapter. Thanks to Sailer for all the help getting thru the Hero5 stuff we stumbled upon! What an epic day!
Off School House Rd there were 2 trails, we took the wet one, away from the trailers/pickups. Didn't take long to sink the Trailwings; I learned I could just walk the bike out of this predicament. Still, I felt compelled to prewalk the deeper/muddier crossings. Quite the confidence building ride!! Thanks again Sailer!
How far I made it into the 'obsticle'; view from rear fender.
and miles to go before I sleep...we rode to the point of exhaustion (for me anyway). After a break & considering options (including Sailer riding out my bike) I got second wind & made every line w/Sailer spotting me thru the worst of it. There were enuf drops before that, thank you very much. Definitely a do not miss ride!
Doesn't look like much - cause this was the 'easy' part of Saturday's ride. Thanks Vince & BBA for sharing your local playground!
Been there, done that. My last epic ride had something gross pictured so if you don't want to see what's next, there's more pix/vids at http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=755308
Sailer was riding his guts out, here's a piece of his lower intestine that was slowing him down. WTF is that? Saw several of these jelly bags in the water crossings.
So that's my last pic, the rest of the trail was too extreme (camera stayed in aquabag, in tank bag, under rain cover for remainder of ride). Noob mistake - didn't check video chip free space. Well at least I got the TMT footage! Looking forward to returning!
'twas the day before The Berkshire Big Adventure
