The item that inspired my nickname: Magpie. It was not the first item I collected... just the one that prompted my husband to call me a Magpie.
A grouping of objects I created for the TORn Travelling Journal. I spy: A Sorry card (had the game as a child); a magpie feather given to my by my friend in Tolkien, Jennifer; a rhinestone M; a piece of slate that fell off a church roof during a strong storm; a silver acorn (I have a parable about planting acorns); a Petoskey stone in the shape of Michigan's lower peninsula - my home state; An old Mickey Mouse watch - I found it on the street in the early 70s; a sea urchin spine from Leo Carillo beach in CA; a piece of cottonwood bark driftwood from the Mississipi River; stones and beach glass from Lake Superior; an oak leaf from Nerstrand Woods - part of the Big Woods of MN; an old Mobil gas Pegasus from my father's collection.
