Cooper's Hawk, Aug 18, 2014
An immature Cooper's Hawk visited my backyard and caught and ate a mouse. It was moving around the back yard till it lit in the branch of the birch with a mouse. After eating, it cleaned its beak, pooped twice, and then had a little lie down. After maybe 1.5 to 2 hours, it perked up and it got up and seemed to be listening to a sound higher in the tree. After a few minutes, it hopped higher in the tree then flew off into another tree in the neighbor's yard. I could spot a cardinal in that tree and I'm not sure if it was off hunting again or what.
fwiw: It's welcome to all the mice in my backyard that it can find. I'd prefer it spared the cardinals. :-)
