A rainbow shines behind the historic Polebridge Mercantile just outside of Glacier National Park in nothwest Montana. In my opinion, this little quirky homestead town is one of the most distinctly "American" places to celebrate our Independence Day. Polebridge sits in the middle of a gorgeous wild river valley. The long dusty dirt road to town keeps on going another 30 miles up to a closed Canadian border crossing.
This is a beautiful place to party on the 4th but with the town's history of wildfire danger irresponsible fireworks use is not a good way to make friends with the locals.
