Find a Foreground: Bowman Lake
Glacier National Park, Montana
I am leading another group of photographers up to Bowman Lake today! Any trip up the North Fork and into Glacier National Park makes for a good day. My mantra for the photographers in my group today will be "foreground, foreground, foreground."
Whenever I lead groups up to this lake I try to emphasize the importance of foreground in a big landscape style image. We need something like these grasses to make a great image here. We need something visually interesting to serve as an "anchor" for the viewer's eyes in this kind of image.
With a good foreground the viewer's eyes can float to the distant lake shore and wander up into the mountains but inevitably the eye will be pulled back down to the bottom edge. It's that pull that helps to create a sense of tremendous depth and space in this kind of landscape photograph.
