On the upper bunk of a sleeper train bound for Chiang Mai
We thought it was so funny that we were supposed to go to sleep - we got over that after a bit and we actually slept really well.
Go to sleep now, Renee!
Sunday market in Chiang Mai - this market was only for goods made in Thailand
Our treking group having lunch right before we set out
I think this was the only level stretch on the whole trek. From this point on there was a lot of up hill walking.
Cooling off in a waterfall along the way - it was about 35-28 degrees that day
Pigs and chickens in the hill tribe. The roosters started crowing at 3 am - some of the city slickers in our group didn't appreciate that :)
Hill tribe
Smoky sunset - there are lots of fires going on this time of year but it wasn't too bad when we were there.
Dinner time!
Yummy curry and rice
The whole group
Tribe kids singing and dancing for us
Dre and Nele from Belgium
Me and some of the kiddies
Our guide was actually not a bad singer... And after a few drinks he was quite the performer!
Wayne, Ben and Dre
Right before we parted ways
Ben, Wayne and I set out on our own for the trek down
More waterfalls!
Gotta have a swim...
Ben wasn't too thrilled to be riding this little elephant who had a chain around his foot and was limping a bit. He ended up getting off and walking along side instead.
They love bananas.
We were on a boy elephant in case you couldn't tell ;)
In the truck on the way back - we got soaked because it was the water festival and little kids wait by the side of the road with huge buckets of water. It was quite a shock the first couple of times but because it was so hot it was actually a lot of fun.
A Buddhist temple
Pineapple shakes! Yummmm...
We thought this sign was pretty funny - Drink, Drunk, Dance.... Sounds about right
We met up with Ben at the Chaing Mai night market and ran into Dre and Nele. They took us out for Belgium beer. What a fun night!
Going back to Bangkok...
This little kid couldn't be more than 5 years old and he was single handedly cleaning the train with his younger brother. Crazy!
On a bridge in Bangkok
Khoa San Road - Bangkok
I love my Chanel...
The train to Tokyo from the airport
Wayne! We're in JAPAN!
Cerry blossoms
We were there on a Saturday, and by the afternoon, the parks were full of picnicing Japanese people. So fun! There were food markets set up and lots to see.
YES! The Zoo. I was pretty excited.
Panda bear!
This picture was taken by some New Zealand-er kids. According to one of them, "that's why we are so wierd". They were funny.
Fake tortise
Real tortise
Back on the train to go to the airport. It was a great day! We flew out that evening to L.A. - a totally of about 5 hours sleep in 3 days! Yay!!! That's why we had no jet lag - we got into Edmonton at 10 pm and had a good nights sleep and we were fine.
