Whorl Mountain
This climb was one of the most rugged and remote climbs of my life. Bob Klimenko, Gary Kellogg, Aris Koron and myself gave this expedition a 100% effort. We made it to the ridge between Whorl's South summit and it's highest middle summit, but due to route finding error we did not make the highest Whorl middle peak. We still called this climb a success and really learned a lot about it's extreme terrain. Being the only one with a camera, here's what I saw. On summit attempt day we left our camp at 7:00 AM and didn't get back until 7:00 PM, very near dark. 12 hours of hard core High Sierra navigating and my knees were spent. The back pack down to the van through boulder fields and drop offs really took a toll on this 57 year old body. I'll forget the pain and we'll see if it's in the cards to make another attempt but time is running out. In the mean time we have to honor our efforts and I am truly proud of this climb.
