Pilgrim Senior Center
Westbay serves hot lunches and dinners throughout Rhode Island to various senior centers for about $3.00 a meal! This particular day, food services coordinator, Carolyn invited me to dinner at Pilgrim Senior Center. I met the dedicated kitchen staff-only three people-who do a remarkable job preparing full course dinners. There was a nice group of volunteer waitstaff serving dinners of baked chicken, baked potato, salad, rolls and cheesecake. The menu has different, delicious dishes every day-soups, chowders, pasta, meatloaf, fish......
The Center is cheery with fall decorations, a TV room, library, activity rooms, and giftshop that sells reasonably priced gifts, such as colorful quilts for less than $20.00 made by members. This night, a tap dance class was starting! The Center also provides flu shots and similar types of services.
There's absolutely no reason for a senior to eat alone or be alone with friendly and active Senior Centers like this one in the community.
