Solid State Scope Conversion
This is the story of my conversion of a vintage Heathkit SB-610 station monitor scope to solid state. I wanted to take a junked SB-610 scope and replace the guts with solid-state circuitry to provide better bandwidth and to support the Dutchtronix AVR oscilloscope clock. ----- I have to mention that I've received some negative feedback on this project from a few folks that don't understand the difference between a restorable collector quality unit and one that's been in a junk pile for the past 30 years. I'm really glad that a side effect is recycling some reusable parts. I originally started collecting these SB-610s for spare parts, primarily the compactron tubes and still-functional power transformers, which are unobtainable these days. Most of the original discrete components, such as the resistors, capacitors, and even the potentiometers are pretty much useless, but also easy to replace. Surprisingly, good CRTs are still somewhat available,
