Chapter Renaming Ceremony

Dr. Linus Pauling Jr. visited Linus Pauling Middle School for events as part of the "Lessons From Linus" educational series for the students. He also agreed to help us formally change our chapter name to the Linus Pauling Chapter. After the ceremony, Dr. Pauling accepted our offer to become an honorary member of our chapter. We could not be more proud and honored to carry his and his father's name.

Armistice Day 2011

Armistice (Vets) Day Parade, Albany, OR. Still we believe to be the largest west of the Mississippi, with over 220 entries this year. Our VFP theme for this year: "Veterans Reclaim Nov. 11 as Armistice Day." This was the first year we deployed a "float." On it we had a large school bell which we rang 11 times to signify the hour and date the Armistice concluding WWI took effect. We also handed out small fliers with the history of Armistice Day.

GDAMS Corvallis

Global Day of Action on Military Spending (GDAMS), hosted by Veterans For Peace Chapter 132, Corvallis, Oregon. Corvallis is facing a budget shortfall of over $3 million this year, less than what it costs to keep 3 soldiers in Afghanistan for one year. If voters do not support a tax levy in May, we will have to reduce services at the Library, Senior Center and Aquatic Center. Members of the community came together to call for reducing US military spending to free up funds for local projects.

"Peace Tree" Planting

Veterans For Peace, chapter 132, Corvallis, Oregon hosted a "Peace Tree" planting at the Salman Alfarisi Islamic Center. This was part of a community healing process following an arson attack on the Center in December 2010. All photos by Esmeralda Allen, VFP 132.

2009 Oct 7 Vigil

Special Vigil to Mark the 8th Anniversary of the US Invasion of Afghanistan. Corvallis Alternatives to War and many other groups have held a peace vigil at in Corvallis EVERY NIGHT, rain or shine, since October 7, 2001, the day the US invaded Afghanistan.

5-17-09: Benefit concert for war resisters, hosted by VFP 132, Corvallis. emma's revolution (named for the early 20th century activist, Emma Goldman) features Pat Humphries and Sandy O.
