DAF Company visit

On April 8 2008 the VDS GROUP T Team visited DAF Trucks in Eindhoven. DAF, a Peccar company, is one of the largest truck producers in the world. In the morning we visited the engine test center where DAF attempts to lower the fuel consumption of their truck motors as much as possible, keeping CO2 and NOx exhaust gass regulations in mind. Then we visited the kinematics & vibrations center. Here one tests all parts of the truck with respect to vibrations and noise. After a nice lunch we visited the fully automated assembly hall where DAF produces more than 200 trucks per day.

Altair Composites Seminar

On November 28 2007 Pieter Roels and Jan Nolens traveled to Böblingen, Germany (near Stuttgart) to attend a 2-day seminar about how to use composites in the Altair Hyperworks software. They also joined a session about Environment friendly transport technology, presented by a number of Formula Student teams

Critical Design Review Day 3

The Critical Design Review (CDR), hosted by the VDS GROUP T Team in the city of Leuven, was the second VDS Design Review of great importance. This event took place from Friday, November 16 till Sunday, November 18. The VDS GROUP T Team kick off with a symposium on Environment-Friendly Transport Technology on Friday. On Saturday and Sunday, talks, individual team presentations and discussion moments were used to review the first trade studies and define the VISION specifications. Next, VDS Org presented the assembly strategy for the first VISION and a long-term strategic plan.

Altair Hyperworks Seminar

On November 11 2007 Jan Nolens and Pieter Roels, responsible for the frame optimisation and frame materials, traveled to Böblingen, Germany to attend the 3-day Altair Hyperworks Seminar. Altair Hyperworks is a software packet that we use to optimise the weight of our frame. Altair is one of our major sponsors. Also here, we want to thank them for this great software program that is of uttermost importance to VDS.

On October 23 2007, the frameteam went to the Automotive.net Symposium, to learn about the newest innovative frame technologies, targeted for automotive applications.

VDS TU Delft Meeting

On October 22 2007 five VDS GROUP T members went to TU Delft to discuss the cooperation. The VDS TU Delft Team is the most important input team of VDS, as they deliver the interior and exterior technical drawings of the VDS VISION. Input number 1 for the frame team!

Tsinghua University Meeting

Thijs Herteleer, leader of the frame team, and Pieter Roels, frame team manager, went to Tsinghua University in Beijing to discuss the cooperation between them. Both VDS Tsinghua and VDS GROUP T are working on the frame. VDS GROUP T is responsible for the design and optimisation, VDS Tsinghua is doing life cycle analysis and software crash testing. Thijs and Pieter were supported by Saphir Faid, advisor of the frame team, and Serge de Gheldere, climate ambassador of Belgium and a personal friend of Al Gore.

Openbedrijvendag

In october VDS participated at the GROUP T Openbedrijvendag. This open-to-everyone event is meant to present all GROUP T projects. VDS GROUP T showed posters on which the VDS story is described, explained visitors concepts of the frame and electrical motor, and presented lectures about how to turn the global warming trend into an opportunity for projects like ours.
