'67 Elfin 300 / Climax
Restoration and building of an Elfin 300 with a Coventry Climax 2.0L. Car was built by Garrie Cooper late '66/ early '67 for Garth McGillewie of South Africa. This car won the South African Sportscar Championship and held numerous track records. The engine #1226 started life as a 1500cc F1 for Team Lotus in 1961. Engine and has been converted into a "2 litre short stroke" spec - an easy upgrade retaining the 1.5 litre crank but combining this with the 2.5 litre bore size, a popular configuration for mid/late 60's sports car racing.
