China town
China town trickets
Not sure what the occasions are but there were many crowns for sale in a variety of shops.
Our home. The Fairmont Hotel. We were on this side of the building on the fifth floor.
Inside view of our home. The lobby of the Fairmont Hotel. And boy was it nice. Very nice.
Another shot
And another. Can you tell I liked this place.
Homes in Sausalito. It had been raining cats and dogs all day till this before this shot was taken. Clouds right down onto the mountain.
This is the main street up against the shore line just to the right of view. I thought these homes pretty and wouldn't mind living in this cute town.
A view of San Francisco from the main street of Sausalito. This must be beautiful at night.
Buena Yerba Gardens area downtown San Francisco. A kind of green park space.
A tea bar at Buena Yerba Gardens. I rested and waited here for Debra while she was on a shopping hunt.
water fountain at the park
part of Muscove Convention Center. We were on our way there for Debra to register for her conference.
Pacific Ocean due west of downtown S.F. I went out here to have breakfast one morning.
What the wind does to the trees. This view from my breakfast spot. Beyond the trees is a great view back into S.F. bay shown later.
This building is Louis'. My second time here. It's a small restaurant on the cliff where I went for breakfast. What a fantastic view with my pancakes.
This photo is around the corner from the photo of the wind blown trees earlier. Looking back into S.F. bay from the Pacific Ocean side.
View from the same location.
Ditto.
I saw a few of these in my few days there. Little three wheelers one can rent.
These are ruins of what was once (at the turn of the 19th c.) a large indoor natatorium. Pictures show it to be enormous. Several stories high.
Another view of same ruins with the famous Cliff House on the ridge behind.
This is a view of Five mile beach taken from Cliff House. The Golden Gate Park is a mile down the beach where I walked. Many surfers out there today (Saturday).
Lovely back yard dining at Beach Chalet located on the ocean side of Golden Gate park. I just stumbled upon it accidently.
Famous dutch windmill at Golden Gate park. It was once the energy source of pumping water for the park.
Golden Gate Park is 4 1/2 miles long and 1/2 mile wide with many areas dedicated to specific endeavors. This is the archery field where I watched these guys practice.
Pretty photo of ducks taken at Lake Merced down in the southwest part of town. I spent a lot of my time on the bus exploring parts of town that I hadn't been to before. This was one area near the zoo.
part of Lake Merced with golf course in the background. Dad told me he played this course and another just a few blocks away.
Homes on the hills behind Lake Merced.
Lawn area of Lake Merced where many were picnicing on this Sat.
Funky store in Haight Ashbury area. This is Haight street.
Yes, I was there. Only 37 years too late.
View of Haight street. All types of shops here nowadays. Both upscale and not so upscale. Quite a tourist area. Notice all the power lines for the electric buses.
Street scene of important Market St. a major thoroughfare. Looking towards the financial district.
Playing with my camera taking a downtown scene in black & white.
Looks pretty strange. The large structure is from the world's fair in 1909. About the only structure left of the event. Photo taken from the Presidio-the military base at the foot of the Golden Gate bridge-which ceased as a military base around 2002.
The oldest structure is now a part of once was the Officer's Club at the Presidio.
View towards the bay area from the front of the Officer's Club. Note the flag location. The next photo refers to it.
Personally I found this interesting as I've always felt Pershing belonged to Texas. I didn't realize his family was at the Presidio when he was in West Texas fighting Pancho Villa's incursions along the border. Gen. Pershing at one time had a fort or camp located at Lajitas just west of Big Bend on the Rio Grande.
Presidio barrack buildings.
The Presidio is pretty large and has a free bus that makes a 45 min. loop around the property. I took this and the following while on the bus trip.
Old Coast Guard buildings on the Presidio grounds with Alcatraz Island in the background.
Many beautiful "Victorians" as they call them here.
A street scene of them.
In the Haight Ashbury area. Found the overhead electric lines of interest in this and the next shot.
My last day and realized I hadn't taken one photo of the famous street cars.
I looked all over for a sign telling me what this building was but never could find one.
Grace Cathedral across from our hotel. This is where I was conned out of $20 which is another story.
This is the working part of the cable cars. This is inside the cable car museum and operations building. Scene shows three sets of giant wheels each set operates one cable car line. The wheels turn the cable that travels underground in one continuous circle upon which the cable cars latch and are pulled. Fascinating.
The End.
