Tracy & Me on Powell Butte
Tracy sleds down the drainage ditch! These rapid-progression shots are fun to scroll through quickly, but for the sake of space and time...I've only loaded a few from each run down the slope. :-)
Here I come!
Had to move my hand back because I was afraid I would smack the camera on the way down!
Heading back up the slope
The sky was both dark and ominous and also blue and beautiful. Here's where it changed.
The sun moving out from behind the dark clouds.
Our ditch in the light!
Climbing back to the top.
Look at that sky! First of all...the beauty was overwhelming. Add the fun of sledding down the hill and you can imagine what an awesome afternoon it was!
Fore!
The gentler sky to the NW.
Here comes Tracy!
I love the snow spraying behind her!
Looks like she's hovering!
Snow in the hilltops.
The fields atop of Powell Butte.
Half-frozen drainage ditch.
Tracy and I built a ramp at the top of our section of ditch by rolling big snowballs through the fields and shaping them into a steep ramp . You can see the trail that leads to our ramp. :-)
Berries.
Heading back to the trail down the butte.
Tracy got bored while I was taking a million pictures, and flopped down to wait for me.
At the trailhead.
The trail was seriously so beautiful, but it was hard capture the beauty in these images.
Sun getting lower...time to head down the trail.
Snow-covered branches were starting to melt overhead.
The trail
Bailey decided to have a private moment at the side of the trail, right as I was taking the picture. Aren't you glad I shared it with all of you?
Later that night, Carter was showing off his baby steps.
Diving into his mom's arms at the end.
Last night my parents and Eric and I drove through the icy snow to my house to get another week's worth of my Gram's medication and to pick up my Christmas presents (at this point, I'm not sure if I'll make it back home before Christmas!).
The snow drifts were as high as the curb at least.
Part of the drift was above the threshold of my screen door.
Awesome! (This is a very rare occurrence in the NW. It's been over 20 years since we've had this much snow!
My Christmas tree that I don't see since I've been living on my parent's couch during the storms.
But it's pretty, isn't it?
When we opened the front door to leave, it looked blizzard-esque.
Three houses with tons of lights that we passed on our way back from my house. We drove a very circuitous route in order to avoid the hill on 136th.
Pedestrians enjoyed the musical light show.
Our car on the road.
Driving back to the fam's house.
My car parked in front of my parents' house. It had been sitting there for less than 24 hours at that point. Most of that was new snow.
My parents' house with snow and Christmas lights.
My car and the street in front of the family's house.
View from their front porch.
Lights and patterns on the snow.
Around midnight last night, we read that the snow was mostly done falling (ha! it's snowing like crazy right now) and that it would be layered with ice soon. So I ran outside for 20 minutes in the snow (once again Tracy was brave enough to join me, and Kimi came out for a few minutes too). It was sooooo cold. I brought my camera out for the last two minutes and tried to take a few pictures. Unfortunately....my fingers went numb after this first tester, and I they were too weak to press the shutter button. BRRRRR!!! We came inside and warmed ourselves up with some snow ice cream. :-) I'm not sure if my eyes are watering from the cold or if that's sleet in my eyes!
Notice the icicles hanging from the street light!
Dad shoveling away...this is *before* it put him in the hospital.
Shoveled path down the driveway.
Yeah...so this is why I "vacationed" at my parents for 14 days!
