Sanna (in red) getting close to T1 while first woman bikes out.
Mark W in T1
Sanna did her first triathlon two weeks ago and now this! Someone might be hooked...
Kim K coming into T1 with a big smile
T1. Ooh, Sanna's new (first?) mountain bike!
Sanna is biking out as Sheila is running in. Sheila was one of the crazies who did the 'double whammy' challenge: racing in the 15mi run of the Pajarito Trail Fest the day before and now doing the duathlon.
Kim, Mark and Sheila in T1
Kim qualified and competed in XTerra nationals a few weeks ago. She was 8th in her age group and apparently got to exchange a few words with Melanie McQuaid on the run!!!
Vance biking out T1 while someone is running in
Jess and Ken K coming into T1
Jess K with streamers(!) biking out of T1
I think this is Rose
Ken K also with streamers AND on a fixie. Seriously. Too bad Tarik got sick and didnt bring his fixie with streamers to join in on the fun!
Kim M biking out of T1
Mark K in T1
...and I was wondering why I ran out of space on my memory card....
Paul in T1
The Southwest Nordic Ski Club had a booth both days, for the trail runs and the duathlon to show people who they are and what they do. This is John B and Denny N. The club created and maintains the Canada Bonita trail system for main purpose of nordic skiing and with added benefits for snowshoers, runners, mountain bikers, and easier access into the back country for the tele crowd. The club grooms the trails for xc skiing and as their limited volunteer manpower allows, creates snowshoe trail off shoots and puts on fantastic events like Snowshoe/ski races, fullmoon ski/bonfires, time trials and more. Check them out at http://swnordicski.org
Mike S stopped after T2 to discuss the bike course as he apparently got lost and did a different trail. More markers on the bike course next time around.
Mike taking off for the second run.
Warren in T2
Clay coming in to T2
Peter ('the animal') talking in T2 about how he also got confused on the bike course. Hey, if they didnt go so fast it wouldnt be a problem! :) Just kidding! First time event - more markers for the bike course next time around!
Peter D. heading out on the second run
Handpainted awards...by Jeff the race director! Blue, Red and Yellows are for overalls and age groups. The green and orange pieces on the bottom are for the crazies that not only did the Du but also did either 10k (DS double skinny) or 15mi (DW double Whammy) runs the day before. The DS and DW rocks have each racer's name on them!
Orion in T2
Peter L in T2
Its hard work! Spectating that is!
Mark in T2
Jason S just flew in to T2
Volunteer race helpers! ...except the middle one, she is just there to cheer on papa and advertize Southwest Nordic Ski Club (see the hat?)
Martin (the tall German :) coming into T2
BEST. POSE. EVER.
Martin leaping out of T2
Toti comes in to T2
Toti didnt mind stopping to pose in T2.
First woman and 'man from Taos' into T2. Like I said, names to come soon :)
First woman in T2!
Everyone was so cool about a camera in their face in T2! :)
I think that's 'man from Taos' again! Starting run 2.
Vance in T2
Jessica also ran the 15miler the day before. Check out that smile!!
I think I caught Ken when he took a little break to straighten his back in T2. Check out his collared shirt - that's racing with style! :)
Kim K. in her element in T2. Breathing in and smiling with blue sky and fall colors in the background.
Talk about a lucky shot! :)
Peter D. and Mike S. done, Clay finishing.
Mike S, Warren O, Peter D, Clay M. Your friendly fast guys! :)
Ladies in T2. Man! So many women did this race - will have to see the exact ratio of men to women in the results. Just from the photos looks impressive! Hope that continues, ladies!
Sanna off for the second run with Rose gearing up in the background.
Rose in T2 posing on request :)
Peter L. finishing
Orion finishing hard. Orion has gone from a mtn bike race on a yardsale bike to one of the scariest junior bike racers around in barely a year! And apparently he can run, too!
I'm sorry, THIS is the ANIMAL! Not Peter D. (standing behind on the right). :) Actually this is Sheila in T2 showing me her animal race face (on request) :))))) Go SHEILA!!!
"Hey, someone took my full carbon 29'er and I got stuck with this thing...." Mark in T2
"Hey, where's my lei?"...Martin has done too many Konas... :)
Now *this* is how you take a mid-race photo!
Jason S. trying to find the on-off switch on his bionic huminoid machine. FYI, this guy holds almost every NM state hillclimb record -- set almost entirely in the '80s!
"Too legit...too legit to quit!"
...and I came all the way from Taos for this?
Uh, this chick just beat almost all the guys
Laura in T2, after a hard ride and with a big smile
Kim and Vince show some intensity -- great race for both of them
"I sure could use a burger right about now!"
Sheila always gets the job done in these hard local events.
It was SO cool seeing so many strong women out there representing today. Way to go, ladies!
Great finish by Kim, and good running form too!
Way to go #710 =)
Now that's just good race directing!
Gotta love the Dr. J headband, Mark!
I did the Dirty Du and all I got was this damned cheap t-shirt....
Merry Christmas from the Warren O. family
Seriously, this one is going on the mantle come December.
Get any closer to my beer and I'm gonna throw!
Toti pickin' up the bling for du'in the Double Whammy.
Same comments as just before, only this is Ken and someone already took his beer and he's really about to throw.
Jessica happy after du'in the Double Whammy
Let go, Jeff. Way to go Laura!
Mark pickin' up his loot from du'in the Double Skinny
Great job to Peter...what an animal. Last picture on the memory card. See everyone next year!
