Bikaner 2008

The atmospheric city of Bikaner in northern Rajasthan, founded by Rao Bika in 1488, was once an important staging post on the great caravan trade routes and constituted a major centre of learning and wool trading. The Junagadh fort is one of the best preserved in the country, with intricate murals and magnificent stone carvings. Biking to Mandawa

Known for its intricatetly painted havelis (mansions), Mandawa, located in the Shekvati region of northern Rajasthan, is halfway between Delhi and Bikaner and a 4 hour drive north of Jaipur. The stunning havelis that have made the region so well known are now sadly falling into disrepair but there are still some of real beauty.

Taj Mahal

The world’s greatest monument to love and one of the most famous landmarks in india : the Taj Mahal. It is best experienced at sunrise or sunset when the light reflects off the marble to give it a magnificent hue. The Taj Mahal was built by Emperor Shah Jahan over a period of 17 years from 1632, in memory of his beloved late wife Mumtaz Mahal.

Corbett

Set up in 1936 as India's first national park and possibly the finest, the Corbett National Park was first delimited in consultation with that great hunter and conserver, Jim Corbett. The park covers an area of more than 900 square Km and is located in the foothills of the western Himalayas (altitude of 600 to 1100 metres).

Rajasthan

Himachal Pradesh

The Himalayan state of Himachal Pradesh spans five mountain ranges and is dotted with rivers that weave through small villages and apple orchards. Snow-capped mountains, alpine forests and shimmering lakes abound in this spectacular region. The state capital of Shimla, formerly the summer capital of the Raj, has now developed into a chaotic avalanche of multi-coloured buildings but visitors can still find fresh mountain air and pockets of serenity whilst just minutes away you are greeted with some of the most beautiful landscapes in the region, with forests of horse chestnut and majestic pines framed by the lofty jagged peaks of the Himalayas. The neighboring Kullu Valley is known for its stunning views and vibrant local traditions.

Ladakh

Ladakh is a land like no other. Tamil Nadu
