Here's what you will need to add additional ribbons to your Bible. Obviously, a Bible, ribbon that can be obtained from any craft store for under a buck, scissors, and 5 minute epoxy.
At the top of your Bible, you will see a space in between the block of pages and the binding itself. This is where the ribbons will be glued.
Gently insert a pencil in between that block and the binding. This will allow you to insert the ribbon more easily. You don't need to push the pencil in too much, just enough to open that space just a tad.
Cut the amount of ribbon you want to use. A foot and a half will be plenty, even for the largest of Bibles.
Mix up the epoxy and put a very small amount onto the end of one of your ribbons. You don't need a lot, just a pinch. When buying your epoxy, make sure you get the 5 minute and not the 1 hour stuff. You can find it at any home center.
With the pencil still inserted (the picture doesn't show it), carefully insert your ribbon in between the binding and the page block. After getting the ribbon down, insert a small piece of cardboard to act as a clamp that will push the ribbon against the page block. Allow the epoxy to set for a few minutes. once the epoxy begins to set, remove the cardboard. Forgetting to remove the cardboard will result in a hunk of cardboard sticking out of the top of your Bible!
Proceed onto the second ribbon repeating the same procedure. If you will be adding more than one ribbon, you will need to stagger them as the picture shows.
Now onto the third.....
Place the ribbons in the bible and pull taught once the epoxy sets completely. This will allow accurate trimming.
Trim away, cutting on a 45 degree angle. Just make sure they are long enough so you can grab them and slide them sideways so you can open the Bible to the page they are in. I think these ribbons were cut around 2 1/2 inches. Additionally, you can place a butter knife on your stove top to heat it slight and can then slightly singe the ends of the ribbon to prevent fraying. Bam...your done.
