Honors Ice Cream Social and Academic Kickoff
On September 14th, Honors students enjoyed their first Honors Ice Cream Social of the semester in Anne Arundel Hall.
On September 16, Professor Howard Smead, Department of History and Honors Lecturer, presented his lecture “Sequence of Failures? Raising Questions About a Man-Made Disaster” as the Academic Kickoff for the Honors College’s “Crisis in the Gulf” Series. Dr. Smead addressed issues ranging from what happened and why to how this disaster compares to other disasters in history to the effects of government policy on offshore drilling. He concluded with a thought-provoking question, “Is this the price we may have to pay for future comfort?” and urged students, “if you are passionate about the present and its influence on your future, here is the opportunity for you to learn, explore, and with luck, help resolve.”
