our travel trailer wednesday night - the kids room
the master bedroom
early morning thursday, that's our trailer on the left
on the road again, highway 180 headed to the park, 1 hour and 48 minutes to hiking time.
packed, permitted, and leaving the ranger station. told we'll have a knee deep river crossing along the way.
we weren't expecting a sandy trail
we're headed toward junction meadow
not the river crossing, one of many bridges.
bailey bridge.
still going to junction meadow.
another bridge. getting annoyed that we don't get to walk in the water...
don't be deceived, this was nasty switchbacks.
mark, feeling triumphant after conquering the switchbacks.
early lunch because mark was dying. by this time he'd already lost his arms to a nasty pigeon. co proudly displaying the first of many greens bars. clay just looking cool.
the meadow! phew. this was supposed to be a 12 mile hike, total. by the time we got here we'd already gone 11 and weren't even close to our...final destination.
so we set up camp.
morning co.
view from my tent through the screen and a cold steamy camera lens.
deer, but i was too cold to get out of the tent.
why i picked this part of the meadow to set up camp.
heading out on friday, going to east lake and lake reflection.
the junction.
the knee-deep river crossing.
river crossing again.
bear!
east lake! man. this was a tough climb. only 4 miles from the meadow, but a lot of up.
me looking super amish at east lake
mark at east lake
mark saved the cheese.
no fires at lake reflection, it's over 10,000ft. cold and dry up there.
2 more miles and we got to lake reflection, elev 10,100 ft, set up camp for friday night.
co/clay's bedroom.
mark standing on his head.
mark fake climbing things.
saturday morning reflections by mark.
east lake on the way down.
tara's loooooong solo hike from lake reflection to the meadow. i didn't see any one for hours. or miles. kind of spooky.
resting my blistery feet in the river. still alone...kept hearing bears or scary mountain men sneaking up behind me.
tara's silent trek continues...
bear again!
saturday night camp.
saturday night dinner time.
