Australian Visit 2008 and 2009

This is a general selection of photos from our visit to Australia in 2008/09. Spent time at home in Brisbane, visited the 'Annwns' near Bundaberg, then travelled by car to Surat, south western Queensland. Then the inland route to Bowral, along the southern NSW coastline to Mt Martha in the Mornington Pennusular. By ferry across Port Phillip Bay to Queenscliffe and then onto Port Fairy near Warrnambool before returning to Brisbane via the Yarra Valley and Bowral.

2008 Hard Dock Cafe Farewell Rally 2006

This is the last big get together for the Rally 2006. In attendance were Been-a-long, Court Jester, Amaroo VII, Mr Bean, Muscat, Envy, Circe, Freya, Dream Catcher and Plane Sailing. Also joining us were a number of the Rally 2007. Farewell to our friends departing for the Red and South Africa early 2009 - Dream Catcher, Circe, Freya and not in the photos having already left Silver Fern. We were entertained by Trevor from Been-a-long, Jorgen from Circe on guitar and singing and Bruce from Envy with some of his ditties and Oz poetry. A great night and we miss you all.

Mekong River

Our trip down the Mekong River, and as it was late in the season only 8 passengers, in the high season can have 45 people. The current was running at approx 5kts. Stopped at a local hill tribe village and then stayed the night at Luang Say. Next day onto Luang Probang, stopping at the Caves of a 1000 Buddhas.

Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai

This was a very full day, stopping at the Hot Springs, the White Temple, Golden Triangle at the Mekong River, then onto the Myanmar Border Crossing, stopped at a couple of local hill tribe villages and finally Chiang Rai.

Touring with the Eldreds

Great fun was had with Peter and Barbara Eldred during their visit to Patong Beach at Phuket, Thailand. With the wind not being favourable to leave 'Envy' at Patong, Nai Harn was chosen and a car hired for their stay. Some of the many places seen were Khao Lak and the Tsunami Museum and the Police Boat, Promthrep Cape, Big Buddha Statue, Ao Chalong, Siray Island to taste Abalone to name a few.

Rebak Cocktail Party

Rebak has a monthly Cocktail Party that the Marina residents are invited to. We all enjoy the cocktails and nibbles provided, and afterwards enjoy listening and dancing to our Rally musician Johnny.

The Andaman Islands

Arrived Port Blair 0700 Sunday 28th January 2007 and departed Saturday 24th February 2007. Visiting yachts are only given a 30 day visa and must depart at the expiry. To date visiting Cruisers are not permitted to enter the Nicobar Islands.

Thailand - First Visit Jan 2007

We only had a couple of weeks in Thailand before departing for the Andaman Islands, spent the two weeks around Phuket, clearing 'in and out' of Thailand at Au Chalong. There is a well known and excellent Sunday Market here. We did a quick cruise into stunning Phang Nga Bay where we entered our first 'Hong'.
