SIDH

SIDH is Society for the Integrated Development of the Himalayas, near Kempty village. On our way there, we went through Mussoorie. SIDH focuses on education and has programs for youth, such as a Gap Year College. We attended a Jeevan Vidya workshop for 7 days, which tackled the "big" questions in life. The setting was incredibly beautiful -- no one wanted to leave!!

Narmada Dam Affected Villages

From Adarshila, we went to a village called Kakhrana. We stayed overnight in a school, and then took a boat on the Narmada the next morning to visit dam-affected villages...

Adivasi Mukti Sangatan Meeting

A group went out to attend an Adivsai Mukti Sangatan Meeting (for the liberation of the tribal population/tribal rights). It was incredibly eye-opening, and the 5 hour journey there was well worth the knowledge and insight we received.

Islampur (Nandini Mobile Service Van)

InSPIRE 2008 went out on the Nandini Mobile Service Van, which focuses on sanitation, health and hygiene. We spent three days in Islampur, a village in the Patan district of Gujarat. Each participant was placed with a host family. We would wake up early, clean the village center, go to the primary and high school, do a cleaning "rally" with the kids, and have a village meeting at night. We also had a big garba on the last night, which was a blast!

We stopped by a few places on our way to the village. We saw Adalaj, which is right outside of Ahmedabad. We also went to an all-girls PTC (primary teaching college). Finally, we stopped by the Sun Temple near Modhera.

Ahmedabad

InSPIRE 2008 started off in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. We stayed at the Environmental Sanitation Institute in Sughad (a village right outside Ahmedabad). Our partner NGO was Manav Sadhna. The picture captions will tell the rest of the story...
