Shukriya on Sunday 13, February 2011

‘Shukriya’ an annual parish celebration was held on Sunday, 13th February 2011 at the Backyard Lawns. This was attended by members of the different Associations of the Parish with an almost full attendance of around 350. This event is meant to be a recognition of the Committee Members’ dedication towards the parish. Different teams were formed using different coloured wrist bands. The whole function was agog with activity due to the ‘joie de vivre’ of Mr. Darryl Loyola and the dynamic Parish Priest Fr. Errol Fernandes S.J. There was foot tapping music and animated games that kept one and all on the floor. The evening was so “fun-tastic” that it called for a celebratory meal and who else met the need? None other than Mr. Anthony Gomes and family who run the School canteen. This gala function will go a long way in creating a bond of dedicated service or participation in the various Associations.

20090419 Disha 2009

“Disha 2009” On Divine Mercy Sunday, 19th April 2009 about a 100 of us came together to look back at the road we have been travelling and to look ahead to see which one will take us to our Goal of, “Building a Faith Community for Service.” As you know, we developed our Parish Mission implementation plan in Nov. 2005 keeping in mind a 2006-2010 timeframe. We identified and prioritised key concerns in the areas of faith formation, faith celebration, family outreach, social outreach and civic involvement. We now also have specific implementation groups which are: age specific groups (children, youth & senior citizens), S.C.C. and Communication. These 10 groups came together for this half day session to ask “How do we measure up against the goals and objectives we set for ourselves? More importantly, what are our priorities and implementation plans for 2009 and 2010?” That was what “Disha 2009” was all about.

on the 2nd April about 150 youth gathered to experience what Jesus and his disciples experienced at 'Gethsemene'. It was an interactive multimedia programme. with discussions, experiences, vidio clippings, power points and music. The take home was to ask yourself in every tough situation 'W.W.J.D.' 'What would Jesus do' if he was in your place.

20080126 Inter faith Snaps from various zones

On the 26th Jan we had 12 Interfaith Prayer services in various zones of ours. Here we are fortunate to have snaps of 10 Zones, Rebello House Zone, Bazar Road Zone, Waroda Road Zone, Babanagar, Station Road, Almeida Park, D'Monte street, St Peters Colony, Boran Road & St Martins Zone. I guess some other zones will also send us snaps soon. The feed back from the various Zones was very positive with all of them saying we must have this on a regular basis. The theme of the Inter Faith Prayer services was "PEACE" and we read the Holy Books of various religions to here what each had to say about Peace. In prayer we also prayed to work for peace

20081118 St Peters zone Word fest little costume bash

The colony team participated in and won Word Fest 2008. The winning team had a costume party (biblical characters) at my place on the 21st Nov 2008. Moses was there and the Pharoahs daughter who found him in the river when he was a baby, the star of Bethlehem put in an appearence, Elizabeth and Naomi came too and Lucifer was there as well. Kyles birthday was on the 22nd, we sang for him (several times!!) and didn't forget to give him birthday bumps either! We played taboo, shapes, dumb charades, had a singing session, watched a short movie (parable of the good samaritan) and generally had a blast.

20081611 Word Fest

This year being the Year of the Word of God, we had an evening with the Word. There were Bible enactment and musicals, dances, skits, a Bible quiz in which 8 teams participated. There were food and book stalls etc. In all it was an enjoyable eveying at St. Peters quare.

20080620 St Joseph Zone confirmation session

The three candidates from our zone are: Nikita Kunder from June Blossom, Jubel Momkel from Vishal Bandra and Joshua Rodrigues from Wit's end. They were invited along with their parents, for a prayer session to the coordinator's house on saturday 21st June at 11am. Our animators too were invited and all o them were able to make it.

20080502 Talasari Camp at Peters May

Twenty nine kids from Talasari a Mission station in Maharashtra, came to our parish to learn English the fun way. Their week long stay had Eng lessons, music sessions, fun-filled walks and a day long excursion! The visit to INS Vikrant left them in awe, while the animals in th zoo made them go bananas. All in all it was a memorable week for the kids and your youth who planned the whole programme. … We look forward to their visit next year.

20080413 Matheran Youth Trek

30 of us youth went for a Trek to Matheran. We caught the first local train to Dadar at 4:18 a.m. (Yes a.m.) and the first Local to Neral at 4:37 a.m. from Dadar. We started our trek at 7 a.m. all the way from Neral to Matheral via the Post mans route. Tiring though it was... we also treked back down via the same route. Many of us quite exhausted but ready for more.

20080310 Preparing Easter Eggs for the House-bound

It was wonderful to see youth and others working together preparing Easter eggs for our house-bound parishioners and others.... and don't miss the little baskets which went with the Easter eggs. 150 Easter eggs were distributed to the house-bound by our Eucharistic Ministers and around 700 Easter eggs were prepared by the Koinonia group to be sold at a very reasonable price.

20080319 Charismatic Picnic - Karjat

Keys of the Kingdom prayer group having fun at their annual Picnic. The group headed to Karjat, to the pristine and sylvan environs of ‘Pinewood Resort’. Our chaplain Fr. Juan celebrated the Eucharist in a hall surrounded by shady trees loaded with fruit, birds twittering et all. Followed by a 5 course breakfast and a spate of games with audio effects. The coup de resistance was the Fancy Dress Competition. The dip in the cool waters of the swimming pool was refreshing and the lime drink that followed got everyone ready for lunch. After thanking the Lord for this beautiful day and praying that He bless the food, one and all immersed themselves into the 7 course meal laid out – unlimited of course…. Followed by ‘Housie’ and a series of Quizzes. All of us gave thanks to the Lord for this beautiful day that He had provided for us and for the closer bonding between the members, making us a more united and happy family.

20080129 SHUKRIYA 2008

On Sun 27th Jan about 410 parishioners who are actively involved in the Church were invited for SHUKRIYA, the Jesuit Teams way of saying 'Thank You' for all that they were doing at Peters to make it a vibrant community of love in service. The evening was filled with fun and fellowship through a powerpoint prayer service, games, singing dancing, chatting, snacks and a delicious meal. All went home happy to be able to serve here at Peters and wanting to do more for Gods gretaer Glory.

On the 27th of Jan 2008, 38 of our youth received the Sacrament of Confirmation. It was a well prepared service thanks to Br. Owen and his team of animators. We thank Bp Percy Fernandez for administering. It is good to see that very many of those who received confirmation this year are now actively involved in teh church in various groups.

20080126 30th Anniversary of the Charismatic Prayer group

THIRTY YEARS AND GOING STRONG – PRAISE THE LORD!!!!The 26th of January 2008 the, ‘Keys of the Kingdom Charismatic Prayer Group’ of St. Peters Parish celebrated its 30th year and gave thanks to the Lord at the 6.45pm Eucharist. After the Eucharist, members of the Prayer group assembled in the ‘Backyard Lawns’ for the fellowship dinner. The programme was kicked off by a welcome address by Mario Dias, the leader of the group. This was followed by a march. We were then entertained by a truly hilarious skit acted out by three of our very gifted members. The highlight of the function was the power point presentation depicting the various ministries of the prayer group.The evening was full of lively games, Quizzes, fancy dress – ‘Dress you favourite Saint’ and prizes galore. The dinner buffet was a lavish spread with a wide variety of appetizing dishes, enjoyed by everyone. The prayer group has plans for some parish outreaches & retreats during this year.

Look up our parish bulletin at www.stpetersbandra.com for a write up about our grand-young parishioner and friend. She not only looks young as ever but feels young too. When asked for her secret.... she said loud and clearly again and again "TRUST IN THE LORD" ... "TRUST IN THE LORD". Thanks Kitty for your messge... and may you never grow old.... (More snaps will be coming in the INDIA TODAY magazine I am told (seriously???) ... though a write up of her did come in the Examiner too.

200801 Jesus Club (Sunday School) Picnic Snaps - Utan

Fun time once again as three bus loads of energetic and hyper kids went bumpty bump on a bus ride to Utan. We had a ball of a time on a small private beach: An exciting mass, beach games, building castles, and wetting our selves in shallow waters (Fr. G would not let us venture further – or we were sent out of the water for 5 min – and who would ever want to miss even 5 minutes in the water – but we saw that Fr. G got a good water dose – Ha Ha); Snacks, shells and a stroll to this beautiful church on the Sea shore (Fr. G sent us there so that he could get a short nap – it seems) Thank you Jesus and your club for all that they do to make us so so happy.

200712 Mass for the home bound on 24th dec 2007

On 24th Dec we had a special mass for the House bound at which we brought parishioners and others to church by cars, rickshaws or other means. Wheelchairs were used to bring them right into the church. The Eucharist was preceded by Confession for those who wanted. The Eucharist was deeply touching and a grand celebration with the Childrens choir adding their sweet voices. The celebration ended with snacks, gifts and a short programme put up by the kids. Thanks to the very many volunteers for giving their precious time to make Christmas a meaningful and beautiful experience for so many.

200712 Night beneath the Stars

65 youth met from 8 - 10 p.m. on the Back ground around 6 little fires to prepare for Christmas as the Shepherds first experienced it. There were carols, and power points, dialogues and debates, a message to take home for each written on their star and all ending with drinking chocolate, cake and chips.

Sr. Citizens Picnic

Two Busloads of 72 Senior Citizens set out early on 23rd Feb for a picnic to Lonavala. Thanks to Fr. Andrew, there was never a dull moment. Right from the moment he hopped on the bus, we had garam chai, Coffee, Thums up, Limca (just name it!!!). And when we were hungry, he would magically produce hot samosas, vada pav, time pass and plenty more!!! No sooner did we reach St. Stanislaus Villa then breakfast was served. Immediately after, we played a couple of games, followed by action songs and dancing to the tunes of Fr. Andrew! After some relaxation, we all shared in the Eucharist and enjoyed a round of Housie. After lunch, some of us went on a 'chikki' expedition while the rest relaxed indoors or enjoyed the hammocks and swings outdoors. Tea with biscuits and chewda was served at 4 p.m. and that was the end of a lovely day. Carol
