SALT - Parque Nacional de Chapada Diamantina

At the suggestion of several colleagues, Joel, my fellow SALTer, and I decided to use some of our vacation days to head down to Chapada Diamantina National Park in Bahia, south of Pernambuco. It was phenomonal! I was stunned by the incredible natural beauty of the place, with tons of great peaks, waterfalls, and caves to explore. I didn't want to leave!

SALT - Paixão de Cristo

Pictures from the Paixão de Cristo (Passion of the Christ) play that I attended at the world's largest open air theater in Nova Jerusalem, about 20 minutes from Brejo. Each scene took place at a different stage, it was really incredible. Unfortunately I couldn't take more pictures because my batteries were practically dead, including the backups I brought!

SALT - Chã Grande and Porto de Galinhas Visits

We visited the town of Chã Grande to learn about the work that MCC does that with microcredit, and we also got the chance to visit a farm where they produce organic cachaça, a type of liquor made from sugar cane. Then the next day we took a trip to the Porto de Galinhas, one of the nicest beaches in the region; it was wonderful!

SALT - First Glimpse of Brazil

After weeks of waiting for our visas in Akron, we finally made it to Brazil! We arrived in the city of Recife on the coast in NE Brazil where we will be staying for about 6 weeks before heading to our assignments, which for me will take me to the interior of the country about 150 miles from Recife to the city of Pesqueira.
