Women-Micro Financing program 2009-2010

These women who came from Handicap Center 790 and women been member since July as SEDA supports them with micro-financing for Organic Textil and Agribusiness which including the compacity building, understanding the basic business operation, marketing and how to produce the products with low cost and earn higher income generate... Today there are over 40 womens who is waiting to join SEDA as member and it is still in processing to open for more women to join the rest of other women.

Recovery After Matt Typhoon Ketsana Oct2009

SEDA has visited 4 out of 5 villages in Attappeu Province, as they got stormed by Typhoon Ketsana as first time. SEDA responds to this matter by partnership with local district govt. level and cooperation with 5 villages. We are interest to hear how can SEDA supports these 5 villages and how they wants to recovery after typhoon ketsana. SEDA will work with multiple donors to help these villages, from capacity building, increase food security, nutrition, agriculture, irrigation and preparing on the climate change as how to storage dry food goods with much more the organizations will collaboration everyone.

Meet with Coffee Farmer Dec-2009

SEDA's been tried to get the administration of provincial govt. to approval for development in Lao Ngarm. The farmers is so excited to work with SEDA and interest to covering for biodiersity of the farming coffee plantation as well as micro-financing, and marketing will be part of the development. The picture is shows one of the famer's family who owned less than 1.5 hectares of coffee plantation to help her fame earn income and wants to become substainable for her community.

Andee's B-day Be Age 13

Oct. 5th, it is Andee's 13th. birthday. SEDA's staff has show up for Andee's happy birthday wishes for her. She was very happy to see us also, she is appreciates that we did not forget her. Poor schools buildings for children to attends the elementary school. There are over 10,800kids attending elementary schools in Lao Ngarm District. We only visited approximately seven schools in the districts, and lack of infrastructure road, due to monsoon season. Total schools in Lao Ngarn approximately 91 Elementary schools that needs help for renovation.

Will's Ceremony by Ban Phao Village

The Ban Phao Village has a Spiritual Culture Traditional Ceremony for William Thomason. He had been in there for eight weeks teached English to over 35-40 students. Friends, local village, host family, village committees and SEDA's team had join the ceremony.

Ban Phao Elementary School (Summer English Class-completion)

Eights ago, there were 35-40 students participating with teacher Will. But by first month, student drops to half. Then to the eight weeks, there were left 17 students who survived for completion of their course by William Thomason. 17 are age from 7-12 years old. They are pround to receive the certification since it is their first time and it is also a history for Ban Phao School. July 2009 RTC-Need Clean Drinking Water Equipments for Patients

Today, RTC still need clean water equipment, so they don't have to drive outside that takes over hours back and forth to import clean water to the center. This causing too much problem with imports clean water to RTC for patients, but with little donation will make difference and safe time for RTC's Director not to get out from RTC to cares each patients. Each day, patients come to RTC 50+100 every day begin from 7am to 9pm and open 7 days/week. Price for medicine from .40cents to $1per/bag to brew the herb for tea for detox and cure the symtom.

Summer's School At Ban Phao With Teacher Will

Each day the children at the Ban Phao Village, attending the classes base on their participating in the class room. Since it is a summer class for childrens who is interest to learn. Teacher Will did not have a much deciplin for children, since he wants to creating more causal for children to visit the class to participating with their friends. Each day the children attending the class from 5-25 and its depends if they have an activities at home or not. That is why the number does not stable for their attendance.

Summer of 2009 Teaching at Ban Phao School

2009, William Thomason who came from University of North Carolina to teaching English at Ban Phao School, it turn out that he is tutoring the children who participating in the classrooms. In the begin, the there were approximately 50 students and by two weeks later, the student in the classroom reduce to about 20 children. Within 20 students in the classrooms, Will has splits into two different courses. In the morning will be teaching for advance and in the afternoon, he will be teaching for beginners. In this way, there is more chance and opportunties for childrens to learn from Will quicker. Will had taught them from games, song, basic grammar, ABC and much more to young children. This is very good for children to get use to foreign teacher since most of local Laotian students is very shys. Donation on New Building as also completed as see in the pictures. There were six units was donated by private donor who is investors and contributed all six classes for elementary school.

Study of Lao Civil Society Organization Workshop

The workshope was sponsored by Swiss Development Center(SDC) and conducted by Educational Development Center (EDC). The goals of this workshop is to evaluates all Non Profit Association (NPA) and International NGOs of their respond from Donors, governments and Private Sectors as well as the economic social development in Lao P.D.R. The successful and productions of this workshop is that most NPA have the opportunites to shares the thoughts, responds what they think from Donors, Private Sector, and Government. The opportunities that SDC and EDC has gave the opportunities to local NPA the great opportunites to meet the local civil societies as well as that they never get chance to know if the project successful or not. NPA was very happy to build up net work, sharing information, and support within each other's as local Lao civil society.

MIT has provides medical supplies to SEDA's member rehabilitation treatment center. This small clinic has approximately 18 beds and each days patience come approximately 50-75 people each days. 2009 Solar Cooker Training

Gordon Hirst, who is from Australian came to Laos and contributed his time with SEDA. He introduce solar cooker to the SEDA's staff, so they can shares the information to the among of the Laotian communities. The samples as Gordon shows to them, mention that this type of solar cooker its not provide strong heat temperature. It is design for Australian, and for Laos it have to be different type, as what he mention during class. He just wants to show the girls/boy how it design and ideas what is look like as solar cooker. They did tested and the temperature tested was water and it can be use for coffee or instance noodles. That was respond back from students.

European Commission

The EC workshop for local civil society organization to understand how to implementing the policy and how to apply the grants. The workshop suppose to be benefits local CSO to become independent to apply for grants awards. After SEDA's Founder has going through the processing has find that #1. It is not the mother language for local CSO to apply. The proceedures it is way over restriction as for small grants. But it would be very easy for EC to provides grants for other developers as if we would comparing. #2. Local CSO will be need special tutor to be on training as privately for their organization, to understand how to write a professional project or design a good program. #3. There were not much incentive program that will supports the local CSO, such as seed funds to help them through researches in preparing for implementing for a professional design project. These are the main issues as it face for local CSO not to recieve grants.

Andee's Birthday & First time can seat...

It was over 10 years that Andee can seat for her first time with out pillows. She can seat on her birthday and also very happy that she can seat up to 15-20 minutes for the first month in October. Today, is November 25th, she can seat up to 30-45 minutes each time and possible try to seat three to five times a day. There so many things that she will needs to learn and understand how human being function and movement. She still does not understand how our human movement, as we have to shows to her, so she can follow our guides to her.

Flood at Ban Nong Da Village

Nong Da Village is also one of the flooded area in the dangerous sits at this present. In order for us to travel to our member's village, we have to pass Nong Da Village, and many other villages. Our member's village name Ban Ang. Its also hits with so much damages as everything losts from house to farming sites. In this area along side of Mekong River, every single house got hit and damage. This is the most target sites that produce highest cash crops to the city. The vegetables and other produces has been rise more than double at the market. Ban Nong Da Village and many other Villages, the govt. does not have enought shelters for them to evacuates, so we would believes that these victims still stay in their house, since they cannot afford to travel to safe ground. There were no food, or water that is provides to them at this present. While they are waiting for water to reduce that would takes another two to three weeks. Flooded at Ban Hai Village

Ban Hai Village is one of our members who been with us since 2005 to present. Their village name is Camp 790 Special Disable Center, for Veteran Handicap. SEDA helps focusing for education and help the children at this present. We stopped by to check on children and handicaps adults, to making sure they are alright, since we cannot get hold of them by cell phone or telephone. The head of village told us that they had evaucating to other location and everyone is safe. They had evaucated all the handicap veterans and children. Not many children that is still around at the Camp 790, as some stay at school with their parents as those did not wants to goes to shelter sites. Flood in Luang PraBang Aug 2008

Luang PraBang Province is one of the World Heritage and well know as Royal Heritage of Laos. The flood hits Luang PraBang on Aug. 11, then moving toward to Vientiane Province, Borlikhamxia Province, and Khammoun Province along the Mekong River. Both Thailand and Laos got the most hit by the huge hydro power from China as well as mother nature did not cooperate with the weather. It been raining since Aug. 11 to day is Aug. 15th, we still receiving more rain each night and day. We are hoping that on the 17th will be reduce on rain, that the Chinese Hydro power can stop drain the dam on Mekong River. Laos has lost so much of land, over 100,000 arcres so far, and over 20,000 famlies members as been become homeless in Laos. As for number of death, possible might only be less than 20-30 so far. Andee 30th Days Successful Treatment

Andee has treatment since July 14, 2008 today is Aug. 13, 2008. Her treatment has been improving of her strength to form the nerve cells, her ligaments has show improvement. Patient's bones it began to grown stronger each day, along with muscle strength. Especially, patient wants to show how much her strength by holding my hand very strongly, Practitioner had visit her at least three-four times a week. To follow up with patient's detoxification bio-medicine, and physical therapy for her. Patient can understand everyone's communication to her in Lao language. The treatment will be continues for at least five more months to continues new strength of improvement. This is just only one month treatment. Patient can began to rolling back and forth during sleep. Patients improving tone of her voices, movement, and the neck can stand when practitioner asked her while asking her to smile too. 2nd. Day of Flooded & Victims

The most damage in the capital city is Ban Hunsaithong District, KM.4 District where Andy's house was taken in this pictures and SEDA's office been documents. Out side in the rural area, is Ban Phao Village, Ban Hai Village, Garci District, Hin Hurep District, Vung Vieng District, as these are members with SEDA. Many schools, agriculture farmers and local business has been damage by the flood and the victims become so vulnerable due to some people did not have a great heart, so they even steal each other merchandises. Last, night at KM 4 by SEDA's office, one of the victim who got snake bit him and has sent to Mohosot Hospital for treat. There also several people been died as two adults, and one child due to the condition of their living is too poor in a hunt home. 1st Day Mekong River Flooded Aug 2008

The water on Mekong River keeps rising up than last year. At this present, it is over standard border line. This is the first time it has happen since 1960. At this present, Residence who stay along the Mekong River is on yellow to red line at this present which it cost dangerous and most will have to evacuation immediately. All Mekong River coast is on red line border. The local district official has organized the Youth Organization, Police, Military to be participating along SEDA and LUSEA staff from Prime Minister's Office, is helping to sand the bags to preventing the water to entering to the city. Many road has closed along side of Mekong River. Police has direct different direction to use the road and it is very organize as with internal communication. SEDA at BAN HAI SCHOOL

Zachary who came to Laos and doing some teaching as trial out at Ban Hay Village for the Special Disable Handicap Center. These children is there parents who is the handicap since Vietnam War, so Zach wants to making difference for the children by teaching them Conversational English. The children learn just within three days, they seems to learn quick, but they are shy as they don't get use to cacausion teacher. The children seems to attached to teacher very fast and they all do takes pretty serious about their class. Zach who contributed his causes and small amount of funds to help provides the rewards to children. They all love him very much.... SEDA at Ban Phao School

Zach, who is from USA-UMASS student came to Laos would likes to trial out at teaching for local children for two days at Ban Phao Village. At the begin, we thought we were going to get students who would participating for only twenty, but turn out over hundred that shows up for class with Zach. The children were happy, since they never get American teacher before. Zach, does making it different to making the children feel comfortable and enjoyment in the classroom. He has bring American Style of teaching to sharing with Lao students. From games, color drawing to speaking in two days. Andee Before Treatment

Andee who was bored with blue eyes as mixed with Asian/Caucasion. She was bored as orphanage child and her care takers claim that they are poor and they don't have money to take her for treatment. SEDA's team have a cured for her treatment as we are still raising funds for her. She is handicap since 8-9 months old and today she cannot walk, talk, seat without pillows to support her back. Our team can provides a treatment for her from herb plants and will takes six months to a year. We needs to raise fund for these treatment as 5-6000 US dollars. These funds will going for her cost expenese for treatment such as herb medicine, treatment, food & milk, staying at treatment center, care taker, personal supplies like diapers and etc... to learn more about SEDA. 150 Jatropha Yr 2008

This is a 150 trees of Jatropha Curas as was planted in the late of October 2007. So, this year, would be the first year for seeds, as its does growing very successful so far. It was a Ms. Boun who taken cares of this plantation with her son who help her with maintenance and clearance of the bushes, grass, and etc... We already been spot some fruits this year, but it is not quite quality as it is normal seeds. But next year, we do expecting it should growing better and more seeds for her, so she can earn income. Within her farm, Ms. Boun should be able to earn income around $1500-2000 in 2009. Her farm will be use as seed bank to be collecting preparing the seedlings for other farmers. Patients Housing & Bio-Gas Successfully Project at SEDA-RTC July 2008

The biogas turn out very successful and patients is very happy for using this gas instead of woods. The two units expansion for patients housing coming along pretty good and will be complete by July 2008. So, many patients who likes to stay at SEDA-RTC, but not enough rooms for them. Ngum Nguerm Lake

This is man made lake for hydropower that was discover since 1940s. It is first hydropower in Laos. It is located in Vientiane Province and from city it takes about two and half hours drive to the lake. There is local restaurant to try out the Laotian food, as well as learning about the local survival in this communities. This lake also causing high poverty due to lack of enviroment improvement, from road to housing. But it is also less populated area in this lake. Bio-Gas Digester-10 Cubic Meters May 2008

This Biogas Digester was contributed by SEDA, Australian Embassy and BPP to help Rehabilitation Treatment Center (RTC). Since, these rehabilitation center was founded by the patients and Master Khampuen help many patients nation wide in Laos and globalwise from many foreign countries. The RTC only treatment by the traditional medicine only and everything plants it is organic from the wild to help each patient. This Biogas Digester will help the center use for patient's kitchen, RTC residence, and also help with steam sauna. It would also benefits of cleaner airs for RTC and also easy for them to use than woods or charcoal. It would be more clean. Visited in April, before monsoon season. This year, the rain begin early and children who would needs proper building for elementary and Middle school. June-July, the school has raised funds from local communities as $450 dollars. These funds will be use for little renovation of the building, but there more funds that we are still searching for. SEDA who also been tries to raise funds from Global Giving organization, but seems that it is very slow from international respond. Agriculture For Disadvantage Farmers (Micro-Credits)

The Microfinance has been study of feasibility as pilot project. SEDA will help Laos' farmers with a microfiance program for development to help reduce poverty in rural area of Lao P.D.R. Women's Issues

May who has been single mom for more than sevearl years after her husband who died of high blood presure. She been earn income as being house cleaner, raise the pigs, cash crops in her gardening, and handicrafts to raise three children to earn income. Each month she earns less than $100 to survie and leaving in the city. She is interest to join SEDA and she been help recruites members for SEDA. The study was very succuessful data and resources to be shares all around the world and help fight to reduce poverty in third world country. The SEDA's Founder believes that it can be use for Lao P.D.R. help turn the country around.

Attapuer Province

One of the poorest in Southern of Laos. Attapuer is near Cambodia and Vietnam. Not many INGOs or NGOs has pay much attention into this area. Due to high corruption, and damages the wild trees in the jungle. As the poor even becomes more poorers. The children has been exchange the gem stones for candies or food to be able survives each day. Education and healthcares it is very poor.
