I started off the walk observing the port and all the ferries loading cars and trucks.

Chalk everywhere! Here's a cross section I found. You can see the grass/topsoil layer sits right on chalk.
Beautiful little kestrel (I think). S/he was hovering in this pose for quite a while. Long enough for me to notice it, untangle my camera, take off the lens cap, try to snap a photo, realize I'd forgotten to turn it on, turn it on, re-untangle the strap, zoom in, and snap this photo.
