Interesting banners such as this greet visitors to Dunedin
The Octagon (seen in the map here) represents the main city centre
If in doubt or need any info on whatever, just head to the I-site
The only way to catch a double-decker bus in town, is to go on this bus tour
Hmmm, lots of cultural, historical and "artsy" stuff to visit and see
Here's an old yet imposing building (don't know of what though 'cos we kapo'd this pic from Aunty Dada's digicam)
With its Scottish heritage, Dunedin has a statute of Robert Burns, the Scottish poet
St Paul's Cathedral, one of the buildings situated around the Octagon
Interesting phone booth around the Octagon, the rest of the booths in Dunedin don't look like this though
If you're bored of sightseeing, can catch a movie at one of the two cineplexes in town
Here's the other cineplex, but the tix can be a little bit dearer than in S'pore
OK, where to next? There's the railway station, university campus, museum etc
The railway station happens to be the most photographed building in New Zealand
Here's part of the railway station's building...
...and here's the other part
The lawns in front of the railway station are pretty nice as well on a sunny day
You can catch a nice train ride (we haven't done so yet but have it on good authority that its good)
Here's a few of the options you have for the train ride
After you finish your ride, hop over next door to the Otago Settlers Museum
Entry to the exhibits at the Settlers Museum is free
You can check out really old automobiles and other artefacts there
There are photography and pictorial exhibits as well
Next, you can go to the Customs House at the harbourfront
There's the Customs House on the right, where you can have a meal or drink...
...or like Hasif and Hanisah, play hide and seek at the artwork/sculpture outside
You'd probably prefer a sunset stroll along the waterfront...
...or maybe a short bout of salmon fishing right at the harbour
Next, go to North Dunedin, home of scarfies (students of Otago University)
Here is the main campus of the University of Otago (NZ's oldest uni.)
Otago Uni's campus is a blend of beautiful old buildings like the clocktower here...
...and modern new buildings like that of the library's etc
There's even an International Peace Pole near the uni.
Otago Museum is located opposite the main university campus
A few minutes walk from the uni, is the main shopping street of Dunedin (George St)
You can opt to either drive around...
...or hop on one of the city's buses from a bus stop like this one
But most people actually walk around a lot here
Here's the main shopping complex (which has the only series of escalators in Dunedin!)
As usual, no trip is complete without souvenir shopping
Don't forget to get quality NZ wool products here
Another thing Dunedin is well known for is....
...chocolates, specifically Cadbury's (there's a factory right in town)
But don't eat too much chocolates, you might end up at the hospital (and maybe see Ibu there)
Rather you'll likely end up at the one and only Starbucks for a coffee break
After a day exploring the main city centre, you might want to explore other areas like St Clair beach
It's really nice at the beach on a bright sunny day
There's a seaside cafe and even a saltwater pool
Or head to Otago Peninsula, where you can view various wildlife up close
Or just enjoy the beautiful views and spaces available in abundance
