Don Kleinow Invitational 2012

SHU honored its former longtime coach at the inaugural Don Kleinow Memorial Invitational Saturday at O'Laughlin Stadium. The track was dedicated and blessed, and members of the track and field teams ran a lap in memory of Kleinow. U.S. pole vault champion and Olympic hopeful Mark Hollis competed as an at-large athlete in the meet. SHU has a raised runway pole vault pit, one of only a few in the Midwest.

Homecoming Weekend 2011

Homecoming Weekend 2011 included the groundbreaking of the Mary and Sash Spencer Athletic Complex, the dedication of O'Laughlin Stadium and Dr. Mike and Lynne Dawson Field and the first home football game for the Saints, who defeated the University of Michigan-Flint 42-6. The crowd was nearly 4,300 people.

Operation: SERVE

Siena Heights University, in partnership with South Central Michigan Works!, Michigan Institute of Aviation and Technology and the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Growth, had the inaugural “Operation: SERVE” Veterans Day Opportunity Expo. The job and resource event is scheduled from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. Nov. 11, 2010, in the Fieldhouse. There was also a program of thanks and remembrance to honor those veterans who have served our country. Major General Robert W. Smith III, USAR (retired) was the keynote speaker for the service, while the SHU Acapelicans performed the national anthem. SHU student Ian Thompson played the bagpipes.

Michigan Supreme Court Visit 2010

The Michigan Supreme Court heard a live case on the Siena Heights University campus Oct. 19, 2010. The Supreme Court, which normally hears oral arguments at the Michigan Hall of Justice in Lansing, heard oral arguments in King v State of Michigan at SHU as part of “Court Community Connections,” a Supreme Court program aimed principally at high school students. Students from Lenawee County high schools, SHU, Adrian College and Jackson Community College attended the court session in Francoeur Theater. Students and teachers studied the case in advance with the help of local judges and attorneys. Following the argument, the students met with the attorneys in the case for a debriefing.

O'Laughlin Stadium Construction

Construction started in September 2010 on the new O'Laughlin Stadium on the campus of Siena Heights University. The existing baseball field and tennis courts will be removed in place of a new outdoor performance stadium that will be the home for many of the Saints' athletic programs.

Take SHU Out to the Ball Game 2010

The 7th Annual Mud Hens Outing was July 29 at Fifth Third Field in Toledo, Ohio. Co-sponsored by Kapnick Insurance and The Collaborative, SHU alumni and friends watched the Toledo Mud Hens play the Pawtucket Red Sox. Those attending met at “The Roost,” Fifth Third Field’s most popular party spot. They then enjoyed the game from great seats on the “front porch” outside the Roost. They cheered the Hens along with Muddy and Muddonna and our own Halo the Husky, who made his debut at the event.

SHU Stadium Groundbreaking Event

Siena Heights University broke ground on a multimillion dollar outdoor performance stadium during a special ceremony July 13 near the proposed site. With shovels in hand, SHU President Sister Peg Albert, OP, PhD, along with members of SHU’s administration and other special guests conducted the ceremonial groundbreaking for the facility that will serve as a home field for several Saints athletic programs, including soccer, lacrosse, track and field and newly announced football. The stadium site will be located on the current baseball field off Oakwood Road. With construction planned to begin in August 2010, a targeted completion date is the fall of 2011.

ATHENA Parthenon Award 2010: SHU

Athena Lenawee, an organization dedicated to recognizing and celebrating women’s leadership, honored Siena Heights University with its 2010 Parthenon Award for Business Leadership. The criteria for the Parthenon Award include providing a culture “that allows women to reach their full leadership potential.” SHU President Sister Peg Albert, OP, PhD, accepted the award on behalf of the University at an awards ceremony Wednesday evening in Rueckert Auditorium.

'A Beautiful World: The Gregg Milligan Story'

Siena Heights University’s 90th Anniversary Committee presented “A Beautiful World: The Gregg Milligan Story,” discussion and book signing at 7:30 p.m. April 23 in Dominican Hall. Internationally known child abuse prevention advocate and author Gregg Milligan recently released the book, “A Beautiful World,” detailing his childhood of abuse where he overcame many obstacles, including illiteracy. The 1985 Siena Heights graduate, who appeared on the “Oprah Winfrey Show” on Feb. 15, 2010, discussed his past as well as his incredible triumph over that past.

Receiving this year's awards were Patricia McDonald, OP (St. Dominic Award), Sister Mary Alan Stuart (Sister Ann Joachim Award) and Captain John Detro (Outstanding Alumni Award).

Extreme Makeover Part 3 2007

This was the third of a four-part Extreme Makeover series entitled "Etiquette and Mocktail Reception." The SHU Career Center hosted this event that included students, faculty, staff, administration and community leaders. The purpose of the March 13 program was to help Siena Heights students learn proper etiquette in formal settings. Claudia Blanchard's Business Etiquette Class led demonstrations on proper etiquette and students had a chance to put those tips into practice with a food-filled reception following the program.
