The Awakening, at Hains Point in DC
(you'd make a face too, if someone were standing on your mustache)
at one point, a couple of the remarkably homogeneous 14 year-olds decided it would be fun to go run off into the mass of sea gulls that had assembled...
... which I though sounded like lots of fun, but wasn't about to do myself...
... for fear of the extreme amount of bird poop which would be sure to ensue...
... but I had fun taking pictures anyway... hopefully they didn't get hit too badly...
anyway, so, the statue...
and also, a helicopter... this happens in DC, you know...
la la la, a very big foot...
this was a teacher/chaperone of the 14 year-old bunch
He had been trying for a very long time to reach the top of the knee, and we were all proud of him when he made it, even those of us who didn't know him or didn't particularly like homogeneous 14 year-olds.
(I learned - from experience - later that climbing the knee is much easier with your shoes OFF, especially in the strong blowing wind)
Here I am, having climbed to the top of a cool thing.
It's what I do.
The other thing I do is make friends with people who will take my picture when I climb to the top of cool things.
like this.
and here I go down!
Weehee! It goes pretty quickly.
Even quickly-er is me putting my socks and shoes BACK ON. It was cold out. (and no, I didn't have a coat)
One last shot...
... of the Awakening in DC... yep, I was one of the last...
Also, there was a really pretty almost-full moon last night
So I took some pictures of that too.
And of the clouds over the river (as you could probably tell, even without this caption)
goodnight, captiol.
