HAIRY LADY'S SLIPPER ORCHID (Paphiopedilum hirsutissimum (Lindl.) Pfitz); This species also known as Hairy Lady’s Slipper Orchid is found in Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh at elevations of 1000-1500m. SNOW ORCHID (Diplomeris hirsuta (Lindl.) Lindl.); Commonly called the Snow Orchid due to its pure snow-white flowers, this species is found growing on rather steep and wet sandstone rocks in the Tropical Zones in N.E. India, Bhutan and Nepal. During the flowering season, the faces of the rocks look as if they have been covered with snow! Sadly, this is one species that needs the attention of conservationists. Since its habitat lies immediately beside the road on fragile sandstone cliffs, the population has now been seriously affected by frequent landslides, road repair operations and extension and now to top the list, is the upcoming Teesta Dam in Sikkim, Darjeeling Himalayas that threatens this subject and many other species of orchids of great scientific and aesthetic interest.; Image size H x W: 52.6 x 72 cm (20.7 x 28.3 in); Contact: serindiagallery@gmail.com; www.serindiagallery.com
JENKIN'S DENDROBIUM (Dendrobium jenkinsii Wall.ex. Lindl.); Dendrobium jenkinsii thrives as epiphytes in open forests in the Tropical Zones of Bhutan and India (Sikkim, Darjeeling, Arunachal Pradesh) at elevations of 250–1000m. VENUS SLIPPER ORCHID (Paphiopedilum venustum (Wall.exSims) Pfitz.); Commonly known as the Venus Slipper Orchid or the Snakeskin Orchid, because of its mottled foliage, this highly ornamental plant was the first species in the Genus Paphiopedilum to be introduced in the plant world. It inhabits shady banks of streams and rivulets in the Tropical and Sub-tropical Valleys in Eastern Nepal, Sikkim to Meghalaya and Arunachal in India, Bhutan, Bangladesh and China at 300-800m. HIMALAYAN WINDOWSILL ORCHID (Pleione praecox (J.E.Smith) Pfitz.); Pleione praecox, also called the Himalayan Windowsill Orchid, is a widespread autumn flowering species that carry large, beautiful, rose-pink flowers during October/ November. PINEAPPLE ORCHID (Dendrobium densiflorum Lindl. ex Wall.); Commonly known as Sungava (in Nepali) or the Golden Bunch, this beautiful Orchid is also called the Pineapple Orchid. It is commonly found growing as epiphytes on trees of Schima wallichii, a kind of tropical oak in the Himalaya is sub-Tropical Zones of N.E. India, Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar, China and Thailand. RED VANDA (Renanthera imschootiana Rolfe); Van Imschoot’s Red Vanda is restricted to the State of Manipur and neighbouring areas. It grows on small shrubs and trees a elevations of 300–500m flowering during spring.
