"4th of July" Black and White Film Photograph. In this piece, there is an ironic juxtaposition of the innocent Amish girls and the woman with the army sweatshirt around her waist.
"Buggy Races 1" Black and White Film Photographs. I was learning the “panning” technique with an old Pentax SLR camera.
"Buggy Races 2" Black and White Film Photographs. I was learning the “panning” technique with an old Pentax SLR camera.
"Der Engel" Black and White Digital Photographs with Photoshop. I was experimenting with the human form, especially the back and shoulder blades as places wings had once been.
"Ema" Digital B&W Photograph. Ema is Hebrew for “mother” and the Hebrew is paralleled in the wedding ring of my grandmother. I was focusing on catching all the lines in her hands.
"Porcelain" Digital Black and White Photography. I was again working with the back as a form. I used a found plaster mold of a milk carton to show the fragility and pureness of the girl.
"Self-portrait (pencil)" Pencil drawing. I was working on form and geometric angles, shading and realistic representation.
"Self-portraits" Glass, pastel, permanent marker, pen, crayon, water-color, acrylic paint, paper. In this piece, I was trying to convey aspects of my personality by varying media.
"Box 1" Magazine cut-outs, glass, acrylic paint, wire, string. Conveys ideas of violence, exile, imprisonment, set against hopefulness.
"Nothing Makes Me Bluer Than You" Oil paint, spray paint, cloth, paper, glass. Conveys the destructiveness of a relationship, paralleled to the destructiveness of a tornado.
"Stronger" Acrylic paint, glitter, magazine cutouts, digital color photograph. I take a well-known phrase “what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger” as inspiration for this piece.
"Hello Mr. Bacon" Oil paint. I had seen a Francis Bacon exhibit, and was inspired by the idea of the open-mouthed scream.
"Tribute to Francis Bacon" Paper, glitter, oil paint, acrylic paint, human hair, magazine cutouts. Another reference to Bacon, with the crazed thoughts of an everyday person.
"Silenced" Rosary, magazine cutouts, paper. This piece was a result of thinking about a deaf person’s perspective on praying.
"Mother" Glass, photographs. Reflections on the fractured and complicated but beautiful relationship between a mother and a daughter.
"Crazy" Acrylic paint. Here I was exploring shading and what can be conveyed in half-faces, also portrayals of anger and mental disturbance.
"Envy" Oil paint, spray paint. This painting was the beginning of my “Seven deadly sins” project. I was inspired by a photograph of myself. I was experimenting with skewing realism, and shading.
"Wrath" Oil paint. Transgressing boundaries of traditional ideas of wrath and exploring the idea of wrath against oneself as opposed to wrath against others.
"Baby Bee" Easy-cut print. First attempt at a print. The subject is my god-daughter. I was working on using cut lines for shading.
