Departure point in the beautiful Valle de Abdalajís.
La Fuente de la Reina: an ancient public area for washing. Picture this surrounded by dozens of women washing clothes.
La Fuente de la Reina
Mirador del Cristo de la Sierra: a scenic viewpoint in the valley.
View from the mirador.
The early part of the hike was along a well-maintained but steep road....unpaved, of course.
A pretty peak, but not the one we climbed. That one was up in the clouds.
A house that has seen better days.
There were wild irises all along the hike.
The last haul up to the peak was steep, rocky, and muddy.
Sadly, from the peak there wasn't much of a view.
Coming down the far side, we descended these step-like rock formations. It got a bit hair-raising at times.
When we stopped to eat, we were down a bit out of the fog, and the views were nice.
Lunch on the mountainside.
This map explains the hiking philosophy. Note the nice four-hour trail around the mountain (in yellow). We blazed right across the middle of the circle, from the "Valle de Abdalajís" at the top to the "Usted está aquí" at the bottom.
