Plimmerton walk

Sunday the 11th of April 2010 in the sunny hills of Plimmerton. We met outside Leaders Realestate, at the far end of Plimmerton railway station on Steyne Avenue, Plimmerton at 10.30am. The walk took us around the sea shore of Karehana Bay to Motuhara Road and then followed the Taua Tapu track to Whenua Tapu cemetery. Along the way there was a 5 minute detour to the scenic reserve. From the cemetery we followed a track back to Plimmerton. We finished the walk with a nice coffee at a Plimmerton cafe. 2-3 hours walk. This walk offered plenty of awesome views of Mana Island, Plimmerton and the south island and plenty of commentary on the history of the area.

Patuna Chasm

http://www.patunafarm.co.nz/chasmwalkway.html The walk was through the Patuna Chasm on Patuna Farm, a 1650 acre sheep, cattle and deer farm. “Visit Wairarapa's bush and spectacular limestone chasm wonderland. A four hour walk across our farm, through bush and chasm. See the beauty of this native bush and limestone gorge. Experience the wonder of its fossils, ferns, stalactities, waterfalls, eels. wild pigeons and native birds. Expect to get wet! Bring spare clothes and lunch. For access across the farm, map provided, Adults $15.”

Mt Climie

The walk on Sunday 29th November will be to Mt Climie in the Tunnel Gully Reserve. The Tunnel Gully Reserve / Recreation area consists of many tracks, one ascends to Mt Climie (860m) and from the top you can see the Wairarapa and the Hutt Valley on a clear day. The walk should take about 3 hours return. Meet: at the end of Plateau Road (from Wellington, take SH 2 and turn right at Te Marua, follow Plateau Rd to its end to reach Tunnel Gully) Time: 10.00am Day: Sunday 29th November For more information and maps see: http://www.gw.govt.nz/assets/council-publications/Regional%20Parks_20021121_161706.pdf Be prepared for a reasonable amount of climbing and Mt Climie is prone to strong winds so make sure you bring a wind and waterproof jacket. It’s a good idea to wear layers of clothing and take some high energy snacks/food and drinking water.

Titahi Bay

We will start at the northern end and walk around the coastline and then take in the views at the southern end on Stuart Park. (which may lead us to discover other tracks in the vicinity). Hutt Hills

Scenic Walkers will be walking along the Eastern Hutt hills this coming Sunday, 1st November 09. The Hayward Eastern Hills Scenic Reserve is a bushy reserve nestled on the hills east of Waterloo in Lower Hutt city. (not Haywards Hill Road ;o) This walk will be along the ECNZ pylon road (from the top of the Wainui Hill Road) and firebreaks with stunning views of the Hutt and Wainui, before descending through bush. Brooklyn Wind Turbine, Long Gully, Red Rocks

The Te Koupahou reserve from the top of the Brooklyn hill gives access to many tracks including one down to Red Rocks to the south, and also over to Long Gully (private farm) to the west, and the Owhiro Bay tip to the east. This album shows various trips.
