Stop the War Coalition SYDNEY http://www.stopwarcoalition.org/ Under the pretext of 'thanking' Australia for playing along about Iraq, US Vice President and WAR CRIMINAL Richard Cheney is coming to town to keep the pressure on Howard re more Australian troops in iraq -- the opposite of what Blair is doing. Given how unpopular both Cheney and his disastrous war in Iraq are, the rest of Australia is definitely not thankful that he is setting foot on our soil... MORNING PROTEST: 8AM FRIDAY FEBRUARY 23 @ SHANGRI-LA HOTEL, CNR ESSEX ST & GEORGE ST THE ROCKS (Cheney will be giving a speech inside the hotel at approx 9.30am)

Anti-Cheney Rally, Sydney

Thursday 22 February 2007, Sydney Australia. A Stop the War Coalition protest (http://www.stopwarcoalition.org/), assembled outside the Sydney Town Hall. The police planned to arrest anyone who tried to march to the US consulate in Martin Place. After a stand-off with the police, a compromise was reached and the protesters were escorted to the consulate along the footpath instead of on the road. Unfortunately a few arrests were made. Greens Upper House MP Ian Cohen addressed the assembled protesters outside the US Consulate in Martin Place.
