Counting the minutes until start time in Benson.
Long cyclist shadow at sunrise.
Pavement on the old Wade-Stedman Rd is really gone now.
Checkpoint in Stedman.
Andy takes a few minutes out of the ride to change the air in Jayjay's front tire.
Fake rando smile.
Of course, I made sure to align the tire's label with the valve stem. Such fun.
We were well prepared with our insulated luggage. We refilled with a bag o' ice at Tar Heel. Each ice cube weighs how many grams?
A highlight of our ride was meeting randos Lin and Dean just outside Tar Heel.
There were bad storms in the area last night. We saw several toppled trees and telephone poles. This tree made a mess of the cabin behind it.
Rando Sara raved about the chocolate shakes at a restaurant called Andy's in downtown Stedman. I had to stop and try one. She was right.
Thanks, Sara.
Jayjay and I began our 'stopping for no good reason' just past I-95. You know, stop the bike, say nothing, and watch a car or two pumping gas.
Arrival at the finish in Benson. Jayjay flashes a fake rando smile.
Andy at the finish. No fake rando smile.
Rando Lin at the finish.
Rando Dean at the finish.
The second highlight of the day was dinner at Burger King. A wonderful finish to a great day on the bikes.
