I snapped a photo of this sign on highway 133 while driving to the start. The PBP200 crosses the abandoned historic railroad right-of-way two times, first in Windsor, then in Hightstown.
I parked at the Princeton Junction train station, on the wrong side of the tracks. You cross the four-track Northeast Corridor via a short steep overpass, which means I got a warm-up climb right at the start, and again after the finish.
To pay for parking, the first step is to give $5 cash money here and get a token,
Then you go to this machine, enter the number of your parking spot, insert the token, and push the green button. It prints out a receipt for your car dashboard.
After climbing the gratuitous overpass, I got a receipt and my card signed at the start, a DONUTS shop on the correct side of the tracks.
Here is the first crossing of the old Camden and Amboy railroad right-of-way, in Windsor NJ. The tracks were still visible in the road last summer. It appears they were dug out since then, no doubt making the road crossing much safer for car drivers and cyclists.
Sunrise. Red sky in morning...
Brief stop to dig out some food in Roosevelt. Note the typical rando-reflection in the glass door.
Ocean Ave was closed for a charity race in Belmar and Spring Lake. Nothing looking north.
Nothing looking south.
Usually the checkpoint at Dunkin Donuts is jammed with beachgoers at this time of day, and the line takes forever, but the race kept everyone away today. Woo hoo, I got in and out in minutes.
Beach in Spring Lake is empty. Very few photos after this point, since my camera is not waterproof, and I hit scattered rain right to the finish.
This route is not totally flat. There are many short hills to get your attention.
Pemberton Wa-wa.
Thunder boomers approached as I was in the checkpoint at Pemberton. This storm and its thunder followed me for about two hours after this.
Fast-forward to the finish... After getting my card signed at the start/finish Dunkin Donuts, I climbed the nasty overpass once again. Finally back at the Princeton Junction train station parking lot.
After packing up, I drove back to Cranberry Pizza, the next-to-last checkpoint, for dinner. Delicious.
