Cool and crisp, ready to leave from home.
I splurged on a merino wool balaclava from REI earlier this week. I'd like a window seat, please.
A minivan has the best window seat I'll ever get while dressed like this. Here I am at McDonalds of Wakefield Pines, waiting for ride-start time. (Actually, I am checking the time on my camera, by taking a photo, then looking at it)
And I'm off.
Next checkpoint, Kountry Kwik Pik.
Turnaround point in Black Creek. I mailed an envelope to Mike, since the Black Creek Grocery is closed on Sundays. Oh, and it was at about this time that I realized why my eyes were hurting. I had been squinting directly into the sun for hours, with clear lenses. I finally changed to sunglasses.
Hand warmers in the public bathroom in the Black Creek community park. I knew the glove would be warm for about 30 seconds max, but I did it anyway.
There is a swimming pool in a yard adjacent to the Black Creek community park. The filter pump was running and rattling noisily. I couldn't tell if the water was heated or not. Irregardless, it did NOT look at all inviting to me.
Back at the Kwik Pik checkpoint on my return trip. Much better with sunglasses. (Of course, I was consistent in my ways, and wore them all the way to the finish in the dark.)
Et voila. Started in the dark, finished in the dark. As a bonus, McDonalds was giving out free samples of their new Mocha Frappe in big cups. It's a cold mocha froth covered with white fluff and drizzled with chocolate syrup. It is delicious. Mine disappeared instantly.
