Amtrak 92, the Silver Star, one of the east coast long-distance trains, northbound from Southern Pines to Cary NC, passes the Maxi-Mart at the start of our ride.
We thought we saw our first red leaves of autumn just east of Sanford as we crossed US 421, but alas, the photo doesn't show it.
Arrival at the Coffee Court in downtown Carthage NC, "Now Serving Food". It looks modest outside...
...but it's very nice inside.
It even has bicycle oriented artwork on the walls.
Tres chic, waiting for grits, eggs, and toast.
The building housing the Coffee Court looks like it is being nicely restored.
I guess the flowers in the fireplace are just for decoration.
A nondescript self-portrait. But zoom far into the lens in the next photo...
and you'll see what I saw when I snapped the photo (reversed left-to-right of course). Very neat.
On our return trip through Sanford, we happened upon this festival in full swing in the downtown depot park. Live music, kid stuff, arts & crafts, and food.
Kids swarming over the display loco.
Antique Sanford fire truck.
Depot sign
Just east of Depot Park, these two buildings are immaculate.
Look close. Our first verifiable red leaves of autumn, east of Sanford.
And back at the Maxi Mart.
