Caption reads: This cast iron windshaft was originally fitted to Bexhill Down windmill (Hoad’s Mill) in East Sussex. The hand-winded post mill was built circa 1784 and last worked in 1932. The mill collapsed in 1965. The windshaft was donated to The Jack and Jill Windmill Society by Mr James Hoad.

East Grinstead Common Windmill (The Old Black Mill) c1890. This typical Wealden post-mill was demolished in 1900 and its reusable parts were sold by auction. A recent archaeological survey failed to find any remains of the mill.
