Arriving in Morocco...
Dutch gifts...
Enjoying my first Moroccan meal...
My name in Arabic...
Apparently I'm a princess... :D
Using public transportation in Rabat...
Slums in Rabat... Or maybe not, considering all the satellite dishes and cars parked in front...
Tiny obsession with palm trees... You'll see what I meen looking at the photos... :P
Hassan Tower... Or what's left of it after almost 1000 years...
My friend Nabila and her sister Soukaina, my two guides for the day...
The Mausoleum of Mohammed V - the tombs of the Moroccan king and his two sons, late King Hassan II and Prince Abdallah...
The Royal Guard...
Moroccan flag...
Part of the old wall surrounding the mosque...
Yeap, we met in Groningen...
Is it just me or my hand looks very unnatural on Nabila's shoulder? It reminds me of the hand in The Adams family...
Rabat...
Neighboring city (of course I don't remember the name :P) separated from Rabat by the river (again, no recollection of the name :D)
Pigeons, pigeons, pigeons...
The Oudaïas Kasbah - the fortress built in 1150...
Our guide through the narrow streets of the Oudaïas...
Old house inside the fortress, completely renovated, but keeping the traditional Moroccan style...
House of a "doctor" who did circumcisions (look at the scissors)... The normal ring was used by strangers for knocking on the door, while the fly was used by people who knew the secret... Listening to the sound, the people inside knew if they were visited by strangers or not...
The Andalusian garden inside the Oudaïas...
Orange tree... Not for eating though...
Walking in the Medina, the old Muslim town...
Moroccan spices...
Seamana dar nu rasare... Bineinteles ca am crezut ca e Dacie si am fost super surprinsa, dar era de fapt un Renault 12... Tot pe-acolo... :P
Bank of Morocco...
The Parliament (if I remember correctly :P)...
Enjoying traditional Moroccan food...
Medina in Casablanca...
Feeding the pigeons in Casablanca's central square...
Moroccan water seller...
Remember what I told you about palm trees? :D
Illegal picture... :P
Casablanca's twin tower(s)...
Enjoying an ice-cream by the seaside... Ocean side, actually... :)
Surfing suits (in case they are more people who think these are pajamas)...
House of a prince from a golf country... In case you're wondering about his security, look at the people in the middle to realize the size of the surrounding wall...
Mexico meets Morocco... or the other way around...
Me & my baby palm tree... :P
The Hassan II Mosque, the second largest in the world (after the Masjid al-Haram in Mecca)
Call for prayer...
Exposition center for Rabat's coast...
Don't be too critical with the quality of the following pictures! They're all taken from the car; trying to avoid the cars, I managed to get all the lamp posts in the middle of the picture... :))
Unfortunately I only visited Rabat and Casablanca... Rest of the country, next time... :)
The old city walls...
Once again in Rabat's Medina, looking for souvenirs and bargaining for the best price... Actually choosing for souvenirs and letting my friends bargain in Arabic... :D The advantage of having Moroccan friends... :P
My first horseback riding...
Riding on the beach, while the sun was almost setting...
The wall surrounding the Royal Palace...
Houses of the personnel working in the palace...
The front of the Royal Palace... In case you didn't know, Morocco is a monarchy and unlike the Netherlands or other European monarchies, the king really has power of decision...
Protecting the Palace: the Royal Guard (in red), the Police (in dark blue) and the Gendarmerie (in grey)...
Enjoying yet another Moroccan meal... Wonder why my plan of losing some weight doesn't really work... :D
If while being in the Netherlands I've been asked if I was from Turkey or different countries in Latin America, in Morocco a lot of people thought I was a local... The only thing that betrayed me was that when told something in Arabic I was completely baffled... :D But I do look Moroccan, don't I? :)
Or maybe I'm from Saudi Arabia...
Pictures from the plane... I'm not sure, but my guess is that they're all from Spain... :D
