Porters Creek 02/08/2012
It must be Wednesday, because it's raining! Never mind, we're used to it. Seven Wednesday Group adventurers did an out-and-back to campsite 31 on the Porters Creek trail. Though it was raining as we drove into the park, the rain stopped about the time we started hiking, and never resumed, though it remained cloudy except for about 45 minutes or so after lunch. This 7.4 mile hike gains and loses about 1500 feet in elevation, and it seemed to get colder as we ascended, attesting to the thickness of the cloud cover which prevented the normal warming as the day progressed. But we enjoyed many great views of this fabulous mountain stream, and a healthy volume of water coming over Fern Falls, so it was a good day to hike after all. Participants were: Elsie, Jean, Paul, Estes, Ron B., Malcolm, and Ron S.
