China is in the constant process of being ripped and re-constructed. Impossible to think of a Shanghai skyline without scaffolding, cranes and the sound of drilling or banging somewhere. Just next to our apartment was a fantastic fleamarket Michelle and my niece Niki would have loved. It is now being tured into a bus station. Note the two chinese sleeping on doors or boards amid the rubble, their lunch time snooze. Also pics of our kitchen and a still life of very ripe bananas spotted like leopards, if you please.

Who's for breakfast

Pics taken of sidestreet vendors offering breakfast. I love the jidanbin, or egg cake, a cross between an omelette and a pizza. Yum yum. Can have it with spicy, tummy-clearing sauces too. Found that out the hard way.

Flowerport, Nanhui, Shanghai, April 4 2008

Nanhui Flowerport has the most awesome botanical garden display of flowers I have ever seen in my life. It is my third annual visit. But this time we went armed with my trusty new Canon! It is about two hours by subway and taxi from where we live.... and is still part of Shanghai. What follows is a selection of about 126 photos from about three hundred that we actually took. Prepare for a visual feast...

Shanghai, China from the snowfall onward to March 17th. Biggest snowfall in something like fifty years. The Spring festival with fireworks. It was like beign in a battleship at sea in our apartment on the Chinese new Year. Fireworks, and tons of it, went off the whole night.
