Looking through the surveyors thingy...
...In the surveyors house in DeSmet.
The kitchen of the surveyors house.
We weren't supposed to take pictures here...sorry for the sideways ones, I thought I could rotate them after I uploaded them.
In the school house that Laura first taught in...
She used the same McGruffy Readers that we used for reading last year.
This is inside the school that Laura and Carrie attended in DeSmet. They are in the process of restoring it. Luke is trying to rock the desk like Carrie did and got them kicked our of school for the day! LOL
Another sideways one...sorry!
These rocks were in a garden in DeSmet historical place. The quotes are in the post before where I lost all the pictures!
Jozie playing Pa's fiddle (not the original - that's in MS at the Wilder Homestead) in their house in DeSmet.
Belle playing the pump organ (again not the original) in the house in DeSmet.
The outside of the house in DeSmet.
This was at a little park near across the street from the historical society in DeSmet. I could resist this picture. Can you tell we are from SD now where Rodeo is the state sport!? LOL
Here's the Look out tower at the Ingalls Homestead. The kids loved it!
If you can't read this again, it's on the previous post where I lost the pictures!
At the top of the lookout tower...they were too busy to take a good picture! Luke wanted to run around and Jozie just wanted to get down! LOL
On the teeter-totter
Luke practicing his sewing skills!
Jozie wanted her pic. taken with the chicken? LOL
I loved how the Ingalls Homestead was totally interactive - not like most historical places - they wanted the kids to touch everything and experience it - not just look at it!
Inside of the soddie.
Inside the shack - only slightly larger than the soddie! Jozie laid on the bed, it was a rope strung bed and she said it was picky because of the straw thick! She said she wouldn't want to sleep on one every night!
The grass roof barn.
Luke on the Buckboard.
Luke on the manure spreader!
The first well on the property - the one that pa dug - the kids got to pump water out. Luke said it tasted bad!
Jozie helping with the laundry!
The ringer.
Luke doing laundry!
The roper. He did rope the calf once but I didn't get the picture before he took it off to try again!
Jozie loved this little guy.
He roamed the farm at will, eating grass and soaking up attention. He was the pony ride for the little kids.
The kids loved the stagecoach in the hay loft
And of course, Jozie's favorite part...
There's my handsome boy! He DOES smile nicely! I'll bet you never knew! ;)
Luke wanted to "ride shotgun". He thought it was really cool when I told him what it meant! LOL
The pony and cart ride
The school house where the girls went to school.
In class with the other kids
Luke sat in the back row....no surprise there!
They both got to drive the team of huge horses.
The inside of our (messy) covered wagon.
another sideways one...
Sorry!
The back of our covered wagon.
Our campsite with our covered wagon.
Ma's little house.
Luke wanted to pose (what's with this boy? It's not like him!)...he's not smiling on purpose! LOL
These are the cottonwood trees that Pa planted on the property when they moved to the homestead.
The inside of ma's little house...
this one too...
here's the second room of ma's little house.
And this is a bedroom. I would assume the "master"! LOL
Luke and the cow. She wanted to give him a lick but he stayed far away!
Belle and the baby
Belle and mamma
Here's the wagon and team they got to drive.
The pony cart horse. He was sleeping. :)
Luke in the outhouse...not the TP - you could actually use it if you wanted to and if you didn't want to go all the way back up to the main building! LOL
Laura's SD sunset.
I want to go back!
Here's our wagon from the lookout tower.
This was Luke's speed all weekend! It was fun keeping up with him! LOL
Belle making faces LOL
This is the main gift shop building on the left and the little schoolhouse (not the one where they "went to school) that has a bunch of info about each book Laura wrote.
This was one of our favorite kittens! They were so cute! I took this picture the morning we left before it was offically open. It was really neat to explore while they were closed and there weren't any other people around except for 2 other families that were camping as well.
Another picture from the lookout tower.
The rest of these pictures were at Prairie Village and we were disappointed after spending the last couple of days in DeSmet! We were VERY tired as well!
The train looked really cool...
I should have taken more pictures inside because it was horendous! They looked like old school buses converted and put on train cars...and they were FULL of flies! I wouldn't pay to ride on them again or recommend that if you go there to try it...
"Don't!"
"Leave me alone!" They were both pretty crabby that day and we were all ready to go home!
On the train...
Kinda like in the car when they were babies!
It was a wonderful weekend and we slept well when we got home that night!
