Morning view from B&B in Spittal am der Drau, AT. The promise of good weather (for a change) led us to stay off the highway, taking smaller roads through the Katschbergpass ski area and into Salzburg
Scenery at the Katschbergpass ski area during our lunch stop.
Panorama (highly distorted) of the landscape approaching Salzburg
View facing south from the fort nearn the Salzburg castle. Miles behind these clouds is the Grossglockner, a wonderful private road running north/south through the Austrian Alps and past the Grossglockner Glacier. It was closed due to snow in April.
Looking up towards the Salzburg Castle. The funicular can be seen on the extreme right.
View over Salzburg from the walkway up to the castle
Salzburg castle, as seen from the nearby fortification
Roadside view of our first castle in the Czech Republic, just over the Czech-Austrian border, on our way to Cesky Krumlov.
”Plague Column“ (to ward off plague) in Cesky Krumlov
Photo (in a restaurant lobby) of the flooding in Cesky Krumlov in the summer of 2002. Several bridges in the town were destroyed. We were motorcycling in Italy/Slovenia at that time and experienced rain (though not flooding) from the same storm system.
Lamp on the castle wall.
Bell, inside the castle tower.
Close up of castle tower bell. The decorative detail on the supporting (functional) ironwork and woodwork is wonderful.
View of Cesky Krumlov from the bell tower. No, this is photo was not shot with a not a panorama or extreme fish-eye lens, the river really does curve that sharply around the town.
Bell tower exterior, from the castle courtyard.
Blown glass at a gallery outside the castle juxtaposed against the bell tower.
Doorway at abandoned cloister.
The view from our hotel room before departing Cesky Krumlov.
Spring in Austria, on our ride between Cesky Krumlov, Czech Republic and Sopron, Hungary. This was the best riding day of the trip...twisty roads, and lots of locals out for their Sunday sport rides.
Classic Hungarian architecture in Sopron.
The windsurfers and kitesurfers were out in force at the Neusiedler See.
Zagreb. So much looks the same as when we lived here 7 years ago...of course, much of the Old Town looks as it did 300 years ago as well...
Small flower market above Dolac (not to be confusde with Flower Square, below Dolac, or the flower sellers between Dolac and Flower Square, or the flower market at Britanski Trg).
Typical scene at the Dolac open-air market.
We stumbled upon an awards ceremony at St. Mark's Church, hosted by the Vice Prime Minister, Jadranka Kosar (center).

The State Opera House, just prior to the evening's rain storm.
