New acquisitions

A newly commissioned violet frontal, made of St Nicholas fabric, was finished by Mr Richard Luzar, and given by a generous parishioner. The Rector acquired a French red low mass set. A parishioner also donated a rose pulpit fall.

May Festival 2011

The May Festival was held on a Saturday this year. Fortunately, the rain just held off and the outdoor procession was finished. In addition to the usual gawkers, a large number of passers-by made the sign of the cross or bowed as we went by. Since it was the Feast of Our Lady of Fatima on Friday, and permission was given to keep the feast on Saturday, we carried Our Lady of Fatima rather than Walsingham this year.

Organ Orchestra Concert

The second large event of our Organ Dedication Year was this Organ and Orchestra Concert with our own organist, David Enlow, as soloist, and renowned conductor Stephen Simon, with L'Orchestre des Portes Rouges. Works included Poulenc's Concerto en Sol mineur, concertos by Haydn and Corrette, Mozart's Symphony No. 15, K. 124 and three of Mozart's Epistle Sonatas. A full house enjoyed the offerings to the fullest. A three concert series will be presented next year with the same personnel.

a new Low Mass set

Fr Swain was taken with this lovely silk fabric at a store in Litchfield, Conn., on the Feast of St Thomas Becket when visiting a Benedictine convent there and its famous Neapolitan creche set. He thought it would make a good Low Mass set like one that St Thomas Becket himself might have had. Maison Bouvrier of Toronto did the work.

May Festival 2010

on the first Sunday of May, we celebrated our annual May Festival. The statue of Our Lady of Walsingham was crowned, then taken around the block in procession to the strains of the Walsingham Pilgrim hymn. Many of our neighbours enjoy this occasion annually.

Altar of Repose 2010

the altar of repose on Maundy Thursday. A new arrangement this year was necessitated by the extension of the organ balcony. After Fr Robyn graciously doing flowers for two years, Fr Swain returned to flower duty this year. The angels mounted on the red velvet are Gabriel on the left and Raphael (with his fish) on the right. The Baroque cherubs above play a horn and a violin. The font is used as a stand for the Urn, which gives the nice symbolism of the Eucharist proceeding from Baptism.

this set has just been produced just for us by Benedictus, in Pontevedra, Galicia, Spain. They will be worn for the first time on the feast of the Immaculate Conception, Tuesday, 8 December, at High Mass at 7 pm, and again on Candlemas, February 2, 2010 at High Mass at 7pm, and at the May Festival Mass & Street Procession, May 2, 2010 at 11am.

Remembrance Sunday
