Some beds get a bit too much sun, a thatched roof to shade against the noon time sun should do the job!
Most other beds are shaded well in the afternoon
The spikey plants in the back are pineapples. This was the clinic's contribution to the garden and should fetch a good price at market!
We met with one of the Community Health Workers who worked very hard to make this garden happen
I introduce myself to the local representative from the office of Agriculture.
He's led a lot of successful clinic gardens in the past and is very pleased with this one!
We have a great chat before the meeting gets underway
The Clinic Workers, Volunteers and local community stakeholders meet every Monday to discuss needs.
They were kind enough to reschedule the meeting to Saturday so I could attend.
I make sure to greet everyone and thank them for their time
A moment of prayer before the meeting
As you can see from the foreground, this clinic is home to some very talented people with some mean-green thumbs! The flower beds here were gorgeous!
Sam stands with me to interpret my presentation into the local Luo language
The staff proudly show us the newly painted sign, announcing the "Demonstration Farm & Water Project Sponsored by OSANI-UK, & GSK Volunteers!"
Local women make up a majority of the Community Health Workers at the clinic
2 new VCT (voluntary counseling and testing) counselors attend the meeting along with some clinic staff. These folks are essential to the success of the garden.
The local minister, the village chief, myself and Sam pose for a picture after the meeting.
This sign was such a nice surprise, so was the spelling !
Local Children playing where the seedlings will soon be planted : )
The land has been plowed, now time to replant the seedlings!
Water stations we left last month are in use
This local girl volunteers at the Clinic. She has been an outstanding help to us. I hope to get her into ISMAT School for some professional training with the hope she'll be the future of Osani Clinic!
Stopped in town to gas up and found this old vehicle on the side of the road. Its just like the one our good friend James used to drive before coming to OGRA
