Seagull 540 Edge- puchased through Hangar 9 72" wing span Great ARF
This was one sweet Skyraider.
Judgeing from the size of the tables, one gets and idea of just how big this plane was.
P-47 Builder/Pilot PJ Ash, 37lbs, Quad 100 power, retracts by Sierra. This is a Meister Scale Model, flown in Pro Am Pro.
This P51 has some great weathering done to it. Pilot/Builder is Matt Lupri from Boston, MA. Ziroli Plans 1/4.5 scale, Power 3W75, Sierra Retracts, Valley Aviations Pilot, flown in Expert Class
I did not get this pilots name, but he is from England. They came from everywhere to compete.
Nice detailing. Notice the lever for the sliding canopy.
ME-109 GS, Meister Platium Model, power by DA 85, Sierra Retracts, flown in Team Scale Builder: Todd Burley Pilot: David Payne
Sweet flying ME, flown with JR equipment.
There were a couple of these F-86's out there and they all were rock solid fliers.
One of the few WW1 planes flying off grass!
F-16 flown in Team Scale Pilot: David Shulman Power: AMT Olympus David put on a show with this baby. David is one of the top 2 or 3 pilots out here this weekend.
The work that went into these models was staggering to say the least. Bomb drops and all!
I was looking for grass stains or ashphalt scars from the low passes this plane made.
Nice Waco that has a tough morning. Did a cart wheel and that ended this nice looking planes weekend.
Again, the detailing was supurb!
BAE Hawk: Pilot was Pablo Fernandez. You will see pictures later on of this plane. It met its demise on Thursday morning with a flame out and disaster!
This Corsair had folding wings, sliding canopy and was rock solid in the air. Put on a great show.
Another Jug!
Nice flyer!
Ahh, one of my favorites, a Laser. This baby had smoke and put on some impressive rolls, etc. This plane was rock solid in the air. Wing tips and a super pilot did the trick!
Wish I had gotten more info on this Laser. Maybe coming out with an ARF in the near future. Have to save my money for this one.
Business end of a DA 100 Twin!
One of the nicest Bi-Planes there, sporting a radial engine. They were in abundance as well.
John Boyko with his 47% S1S Pitts. John is a solid flyer with this plane. This is his last year for this model. You can only fly for 3 years with same model. He can give it too me!!!!!
Patty Wagstaff 260 Extra Builder/Pilot: Jim Hess from Sarasota Power: DA 100 Troy Built Models
Patty is looking good!
Another great looking Skyraider. Most had drop tanks that made their way to the ground during the rounds.
Check out the nice weathering job on this model.
Okay, this was the most solid flyer out there, day in and out. This is a Viper and with the low passes it did, I did not see one time that this model even looked like it would quiver. It looked fast and was! Entered in Pro Am Pro class, the Pilot/Builder is Joey Tamez. He flew with JR equipment and power was from a Jet Cat P200. Mfg is Skymaster
Inside the cockpit.
T-34 This was an old Byron kit.
Remember the jet in an earlier picture? Too low, too slow and a flame out, just don't work! Made me sick and it isn't even my plane.
Team was removing items that could be saved.
This is a BVM model flown in Team Scale by Steve Elias. The builder is Ian Richardson. They are from England. The Power is by AMT Pegasus. The Pilot and canopy move and they used Perma Grit tools for the detailing. This won World Jet Masters in 2007 & Top Gun 2007. This was one sweet flying F-86!
F-86 with a neat cartoon! Kind of says it all!
Look at the workmanship with the guns!
Beautiful pilot figure and sliding canopy. They both move!
ME-109 that looks like it means business. Nice detailing!
Side view of the Nazi war plane.
Closer look at the pilot through the canopy.
Gruman F7 Tiger Cat. Builder/Pilot is Chip Greene. Class was Expert, power by Zenoah G45's, retracts by Ultra Precision. The plane was built from Don Smith plans at 1/6th scale. This baby flew with the three bladed props.
This B-36 came to a bad ending. You will see later on!
Close up of the P-38. Prrrrrrrrrrrr.
Scale judgeing was taking place just before the fatal flight!
Notice the detail of the rear gunner.
Registered in Expert Class, the Pilot/Builder Matt Lupri is from Boston, MA. Ziroli Plans at 1/4.5 scale with a 3W75 for power, Sierra Retracts, Valley Avaiation Pilot, completed the project. This pilot had two P-51's and both had great looking detail and wear.
Looking down into the canopy!
Notice the job he did on the weathering!
Business end of the P-51.
Between the rivits and the scale pilot, there was nothing left to the judges to mark down.
British Vulcan, all hand built and an awesome model. 3200 hrs of workmanship. This was entered in Team Scale. The Builder is Sam Snyder and the Pilot is Steven Ellzey. This is an all balsa buildup with 2 P120 engines developing 25lbs of thrust. It incorporated a drag chute and full movement in the cockpit. Detail was staggering to say the least. The plane had a 120" wingspan and weight at 52lbs.
Front end of the Vulcan. Unfortunately, I did not get to see this baby fly. It was scheduled for Saturday in Expert Class.
There was some weight here. Look at the wheels. All custom built. Retracts by Century Jets.
Business end of this massive model.
The ladder articulates just like the real one. There was a lot of thought that went into this model. Patience, patience!
Flown in Master Class, this Albatros DV's Pilot/Builder is Dave Johnson. Wing Span of 118" and all scratch built at 1/3rd scale. Power from a Fugi 64EI.
Working exhaust.
One of the stations at the flight line. There were three.
Taxing out!
Nice Waco, running up the engine.
John Boyko assisting.
Had some problems with the engine.
This C-47 was a remarkable work of art. The detail was unbelieveable. It was For Sale, but I didn't ask how much! If you have to ask, you can't afford it!
Detail, detail.
Notice the gatlin guns out the windows!
Another nice jet coming in for a landing.
Remember the B-26? Left aileron flutter and then loss of one engine and then the other in a steep turn. Not good!
The rest of the story!
First flight of the 540 Edge with the new CRRC 26cc gas engine.
Well, first flight and engine quit due to owner/builder error of not securing the pickup tube with a tie wrap. Fortunately, the plane was found resting on top of the corn.
As you can see, I am covered with spores from the plants. It was dark and damp in there.
Just glad to be out of that mess. A big thank you to Robert for working the servos to help me locate the plane. Would have never found it without that!
Setting up the tables and food for our Labor Day cookout!
When the food bell was rung, you can see the first group to get there.
All in all, we had approximately 35 members and family attend.
Ben was kind enough to bring his smoker and take care of the cooking chores.
The food was delicious and the desserts, well, let's just say everyone had plenty!
Ah, time to let the food settle in and spend some time with friends. This was the first event we have had under our new canopy. We plan on many more to come!!!!
One of our newest members planes. Matt Hurst does a nice job with this one.
Welcome Lee Lightsey and his family. Lee became a member on Labor Day. Here he is with Rich, explaining how the buddy box works and Dallas, who was kind enough to let him fly his plane.
Dan 2 and Frank, who know how to relax on a beautiful day!
More of our group under the canopy, enjoying the day and the festivities. Someone does not want her picture taken. Could that be Nancy, our pilot of the year last year?
Lucky Pat! Hope Jeff doesn't see this! Notice the large helping of fresh peach cobler? Serve food and they will come!
Rich and Lee on the buddy box. This was his first time.
After another successful flight, the Pilot and Crew take a short bow to her majesty the plane!
Notice, I was staying away from the corn!
Everyone seemed to have a great time. We will have to do this again, soon.
50% GeeBee
My son Mike is 6'3". Standing next to the GeeBee gives you a size to this plane.
Mike again, next to this 50% Extra 330L
50% Sukhoi All of these planes had to pass a rigid inspection by AMA and have a waiver to fly. They must perform all manuevers that they will use in competition and only those will be certified for the pilot to fly by AMA.
Beautiful day for the Gallatin Fun Fly. Everyone who flew, paid a landing fee.
Another shot of the field and the impound tent.
This is a maiden flight of a 33% Wild Hare 540 Edge. Beautiful plane, powered by a DLE 55. This photo was taken at the Middle Point RC Club field. They fly at a land fill.
This was a hand built Extra. This pilot goes into great detail to lighten the plane as much as possible.
Another scratch built by this pilot. Sorry, did not get his name. This plane flew well with the 3 bladed prop.
Looking due north at the Middle Point Field. Paved runway as well.
On a cold and windy Saturday, CainRidge Flyers met for a race. They had Quickie 500, 4-40's, Warbirds and Formula Ones. If you have never been to a race, you are missing out on some real excitment.
Here is the lineup for the Formula Ones. These planes are quick to say the least. They launch wide open and then set up for the race to begin. Some had 4cycles and some 2 cycles. They each have their own class to race in.
Greg Doe, and old friend that was in the MTRCS Club that I belonged to in Nashville in the early 80's. He has been racing for over 30 years. Pictured is a Quickie 500 that has a 40 2 stroke for power. Oh, Greg took 1st place in his bracket.
Close up of a Little Toni Formula One racer. This plane is sold on Towers website.
Getting ready to start the Formula One race. Pilots have 3 minutes to start plane and launch. At 30 seconds to launch, a horn blows and then at 15, 10 and 0. There is also a large clock that shows the 30 seconds only.
Before the race begins and before the 3 minute to launch, each caller holds up their pilots plane for the judges to recognize, so as to not get anyone plane mixed up with another. Each Pilot must have a caller!
This is a Spitfire Warbird that just finished a heat. Very fast plane and consistant. Pilot was Tom Arnold, the president of the Cain Ridge Club.
If you look in the middle of the photo, you can see one of the pylons that the plane turn on. In this race, there are two pylons, with a judge at each end of field to call cuts and then 4 judges just off the flight line to tally those cuts. You can also see the 30 second clock and the horn in lower right. Yes, field was wet and high 40's for temps with no sun. Brrrrrrrrrr
Peeler Park, located in Madison, TN. This was by far the best flying site I visited while up here. 400'X80' and wide open. If you hit those trees, you are aiming for them. This Pilot is doing a maiden on a BearCat. About 27% scale. Nice flight, even tho he had no expo dialed in. Scarry!
Looking east with a brisk wind coming from behind the flight line. Made it a little touchy, as the wind was swirling as it came through the trees behind you. If you are ever up in Middle TN, you need to visit Peeler Park.
Bear Cat getting ready to launch!
