olive harvesting in al-zzawiya
the villagers of azzawiya have their land separated by the apartheid wall. the gates to their lands are supoosed to be open at 7:30 each morning so that the farmers can go harvest their olives. thesoldiers were giving the farmerss hard time, not opening the gates on time, letting some go through turning others away. several people including the Palestinian DCO had called various organization to complain about it and had rquested the international presence at the gate and if possible to go with the farmers to help them pick the olives. iwps and anarchists against the wall - total 8 of us met the village coordinator at 6:30 in azzawiya. we were at the gate at 7 am. there was no sign of the army but the farmers were gathered and gathering. at ~7:25 an army jeep came turned around and went the other way. 10 - 15 minutes later they came back let one woman and her donkey and left again. about an hourlater they came again and let most of them in except two women.
